Un Día de ReflexZIHón

I was extremely heartbroken to learn of the passing of Susan Guerrero on Tuesday morning. Many of you may remember her from the various events held by the Sociedad Protectora de Animales de Zihuatanejo (SPAZ) with whom she worked tirelessly to help. She always helped organize their events, sold and delivered their tickets, greeted guests, and made herself indispensable, seemingly effortlessly. She was one of Zihuatanejo's bright lights of goodness and altruism. Our hearts go out to Ramón and all her family and friends. She will be dearly missed but long remembered. QEPD
Tuesday night the temperature eventually cooled down enough to have to pull the sheets up over me. We've been enjoying terrific sleeping weather ever since the hurricane before last, Simon. Hopefully it's here to stay. And even during the daytime our temperature has been mild for us, reaching only about 31°C, which is about perfect. The ocean temperature in our bay continues at around 31°C as well. About a degree above normal. Swimmers don't seem to mind. A few high wispy clouds this Wednesday morning kept the full strength of the sun at bay until late morning. Good for those who had chores to do and errands to run outdoors. A light breeze just makes it even more comfortable. Another picture-postcard-perfect day in paradise!
Whalewatching season doesn't begin officially until Dec. 15th, but a pod of Killer Whales was spotted recently several miles out in front of Ixtapa.
Can't help but notice a few more faces around of folks from way up north. A few more diners at the waterfront restaurants. A few more groups of people speaking English and French. Slowly but surely snowbird vacationers are arriving. Some for a few days, some for a few weeks, others for the entire season.
I've been keeping track of the progress of the buque escuela Cuauhtémoc as it makes its way here from its last port in Ensenada. It continues to post an ETA of noon on Oct. 31, so it will be here just in time for the parade of pangas iluminadas. It's going to be one amazing sight to see in Zihuatanejo's bay. Make sure you have film in your camera.
One of the nicest lodgings at Troncones that seems to have something for everyone is Casa de La Sirena. A luxurious private beachfront compound in Troncones featuring a 3-bedroom villa with a private pool, three 1-bedroom MiniVillas, and two side-by-side 2-story 1-bedroom bungalows that share a pool. Truly an oasis in paradise! (click to enlarge photo)
