Sunday night's parade was loud and long. It seemed like 4 hours but it was probably only 3 and a half. And so loud our home was vibrating. I don't understand how so-called municipal authorities could care so little about the hearing health of people, especially little children. One's home shouldn't vibrate from blaring music in the street, and the public's hearing health shouldn't be put at risk, especially in an event put on by the municipal government. I only caught parts of the parade because I had work to do, and Lupita was tired from a long day of work, but I was also surprised at the lack of local or traditional music in the parade. This is how traditions get confused and lost. But it was obvious that most people were enjoying the parade and having a good time in spite of the heat and humidity.

The evening remained hot and humid into the wee hours. Monday morning's coolness didn't last long at all, and even though we got an early start, it was already quite warm by the time we got to the Panteón Municipal Agua de Correa. Since one of the tombs we visit is in the back by the arroyo for which Agua de Correa is named, we started there. Unfortunately, the arroyo is now bone dry, a very bad sign, and the municipal government is cutting down trees along it, much to the anger and consternation of local residents. It's almost as if our municipal government has no regard for nature.

There were a lot of people at the panteón. A radio station was transmitting from the front entrance. Getting around the chaotic array of tombs can be quite challenging. Each year the pathways throughout the panteón are filled with new tombs, making getting around more difficult. Someone buried their baby literally at the front gate to our family's tomb several years ago, so we can't open the gate normally, and we had to break it to be able to open it inwards. Oh well. And of course our aluminum cross was stolen years ago for scrap metal. At our friend's tomb someone had apparently climbed over it and broke the cement top, so we'll have to have it repaired along with some maintenance to our own family plot. But all around the perimeter of the panteón there are vendors with aguas frescas, pan dulce, tamales and other traditional goodies that are our version of fast food. Bocote trees in bloom, and a serene reverence in the air. Seeing families visiting their lost loved ones can be heartwrenching. It's always an emotional strain on us, as I believe it is for most of our friends and neighbors.

Lupita and I tried a new place for breakfast this morning, and we were very pleased with the food, service, ambiance, and prices at La Costeñita. They're open for brunch, and they're located in the original Banamex building in the first block of Calle Vicente Guerrero, across the street from Pizzas Locas. They have A/C, which was just what we needed after a hot and humid morning at the panteón. Everything was perfect! We'll be back!

The tall ship Cuauhtémoc pulled into her berth in Acapulco this morning after motoring down the coast due to a lack of wind last night. It was a thrill to have her in our bay for the first time ever. We all hope she comes back to visit us soon! What a beautiful vessel and a wonderful crew.

My friend who runs Villa Carolina says she has dates open for two of their suites. One from February 3 to 11, and the other from February 22 to March 6. A beautiful boutique hotel located just a few steps from La Ropa Beach and a great location for catching transportation to town.

[image]Located a 5-minute drive from the airport and beachfront at Playa Blanca, Quinta del Águila is a 2-story vacation rental home with 6 bedrooms, and it can comfortably accommodate up to 12 people. Amenities include a swimming pool, a wading pool for children, Wi-fi, air conditioning, a fully-equipped kitchen, and an outdoor grill. A fun and relaxing place to spend a vacation with family and friends. (click to enlarge photo)

On Sunday morning, we would often meet Susan and Ramon Guerrero with their friend, 90 plus year old Carolina who was the original from the lovely villas with her name. A charming woman.

On your recommendation, we will soon try La Costeñita. After your recommendation of Jaiba Feliz, we are regulars. We would love to have another place to have a great meal. Thank you both.

Our thoughts are with you on these days.
