Cooking Class and restaurant question
I did a cooking class with Monica last year which I enjoyed very much. Would like to do another class but am considering Cooking with Claudia instead. Anyone been to both and what are the differences. Suggestions?
Also, has anyone been to El Pueblito to the lamb barbeque on Sundays this year. We went three years ago and was great, two years ago it was not good at all. Thinking of trying it this year.

Okay - this might turn out to be the perfect vacation spot for our family. I can send them to the beach all day (not an big beach fan myself), and I can take cooking classes.
Doing a quick search, I've found five different places that claim to have cooking classes in Zihuatanejo:

Claudia and Monica have been discussed often in this forum, and I'd definitely want to spend some time with them - I'd love to explore the markets with a local. There are fewer postings about the other places - does anybody else know much about them? Are they still doing classes? Are they all active in the summer/off season?

Claudia and her husband are definitely locals and they do an excellent market tour. COOKING WITH CLAUDIA is also available year-round. This is not a restaurant or a formal school. This is just a Mexican family lady who has a tremendous talent with food and can share it with others in a fun way.

My daughter and I were hoping to attend a cooking class when were are there 1/29-2/12. We would like to do the market tour and a cooking class and hope to find a few others to join us. Monica quoted $400 pesos pp, but the rate drops to $250 pesos pp if there are five or more. Do you know what Claudia charges for the same type of class?

COOKING WITH CLAUDIA offers market tours for 100 pesos/person per hour. An hour is usually enough time. Cooking classes are 200 pesos/person with the exception of tamales and chile rellenos which are 250 pesos/person due to the ingredients required and the additional preparation time needed. Cooking classes at Coconuts must be held by the Australian Owner and Executive Chef David Cameron, so will presumably be Mexican, Thai fusion, Japanese, meat pies, vegemite sandwiches and Moreton Bay Bugs. Brush up on your 'Strine -( English with an Aussie accent).

I have heard wonderful things about the cooking classes at Casa Luna also. She is assisted by Isabel Fortune, who is an excellent pastry cook in her own right. Patsy is responsible for the wonderful cuisine that she put on her menu when she was the owner of Coconuts. Her kitchen looks like something out of "Como Agua Para Chocolate" and she will teach you and make you feel Mexican ... She has some very good reviews on Trip Advisor. Her phone is (755)554 2743.
