Wow! You were truly fortunate to have experienced the real Zihuatanejo before all the development and expropriations and mass marketing and tourist traps! Visitors back then were of a different caliber. Most spoke some Spanish. Few complained about anything, least of all the rustic way of life. Everyone had to be fit because they walked everywhere. And visitors weren't separated by what they could afford since there was pretty much a one-size-fits-all offering of lodgings and services. Kerosene lamps lit the nights, folks went to bed at a decent hour, and you could hear a cricket a kilometer away! You've been a fortunate man indeed, my dear friend!
