There's a terrific scene in the 1955 movie "La Vida No Vale Nada" with Pedro Infante, Lilia Prado y Wolf Ruvinskis filmed on one of the little coves between Playa Principal and Playa La Madera.

Most folks have no idea that the little cove is called Playa La Almeja, though I believe a few folks also called it Playa Manzanillo (not to be confused with a couple of other nearby beaches with the same name). Anyway, here are a couple of photos from several years ago of this beach. Right now there isn't much beach there due to the high surf we've been having.

That was the OLD pier that you saw in the movie clip. Lupita's family lived on the beach next to where Daniel's restaurant is, and several scenes in the movie were literally filmed right out her door. She says the scene that she most enjoyed watching them film was where Lilia is shouting "¡Caimán! ¡Caimán!"

Here's Playa Caracol, the next one over between Playa La Almeja and Playa La Madera.

Those photos can be dated by the condition and colour of the concrete posts and heavy rope fencing, although the red colour must have been before my Zihua time. Unfortunately, there's been little maintenance done the past few years.
Thanks for the great photo of Casa Loma Bonita.

It does not take long for the upgrades to be old. I have seen new rope added and it is old by the following year.

The rope I can understand. But the concrete posts? Surely the broken ones could be replaced when necessary.

You should have listened to the talk show Zona Libre on ZihuaFM 98.5 this morning. One of the topics discussed was the 16 million peso Parque Lineal to be built alongside Boquita canal and what a deliberate waste of money it is. One topic that wasn't discussed was how Zihuatanejo lost its federal funding for the recovery and improvement of public areas because the previous municipal administration couldn't account for the spending of more than a few million pesos budgeted for this program. So there's money that could have been spent on this that won't be.

In Dec. or January of this year they put in a new cement walk path from the little pier to the sand on Las Gatas beach. They put in new posts, and then later rope. Before I left last week the ocean water had already worn away at the top of the walkway. Mother Nature and her watery spray destroys cement faster than it can be repaired.

Hopefully someone will come to their senses and not build a walkway along the canal. There was one built there the last year or so and maybe maintaining what we already have would be a good idea.

Thanks for the update on the radio show, Rob.
