Bringing things to donate

Every year I think about bringing things to donate to local children. And never seem to get around to it. Because of some rescent posts by Hunter I am now seriously thinking about trying to bring some shoes next yr. But this clause worries me about getting through customs.
1.Goods for personal use, such as clothing, footwear and personal toiletries and beauty products, as long as they are appropriate for the duration of the trip, including wedding party items. Baby travel accesories, such as strollers and baby-walkers.
If we get a red light and I explain they are all being donated and not sold does everyone think we would be ok and allowed to pass? I would really hate to have them taken away once we get there and not go to a good cause.

You can buy many of these items locally, which would negate that problem.

The publication that you referenced also includes language that says "Air and sea travelers may bring additional items not exceeding the US$300.00 worth of goods -or its equivalent in other currencies per member of the family".
Seems easier to buy them in Z, but if you have to bring them from the US, you could limit the total value to $300 per person. Just remember to bring receipts to substantiate the total cost. We have done that with household items before and we have never even been asked to show a receipt, even after getting the red light and having our bags searched.
Would they really confiscate them anyway? Instead, wouldn't they just assess you with the apppropriate fees/taxes?

Much less expensive to buy "on sale" items in the US than to buy them here.
I have been bringing stuff for kids here for years. If you do not have more than the $300. in items you will be fine. If you push red and they search they may ask for receipts. Thanks for helping.

Thanks for your replies. And yes the objective is to pick some up on clearance through out the yr. I am going to go for it and will have to see what happens in Jan.
