Mexico City Buses to Zihuatanejo

Due to the high cost of airfare, I would like to know if anyone has tried to fly into Mexico City, and then bus to Zihuatanejo. The cost of airfare today is really restricting our ablility to visit our favorite place! Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance. Its' hard to believe it costs more to fly out of Austin, Texas than many other northern cities.

Yes I have taken Autovias ( very comfortable buses) from terminal poniente in Mexico city a $150 pesos taxi ride from the airport, enjoyable ride and on time. 4 daily departures I think. Autovias.com.mx $ 600 pesos
it is via Morelia, I have not done the via Acapulco way but as easy and comfortable I am sure.

My wife and I recently flew to Guadalajara and took a direct bus from there.
We live in Ixtapa and the Autovias bus dropped us off about 2 blocks from our condo. It was an 8 hour overnight trip. The buses are very comfortable with individual video in the backs of the seats. I believe the fare was about 500.00 pesos. The cab ride from the airport to the bus terminal cost 200.00 pesos.

If you fly to Morelia you can cut your bus trip in half and maybe spend a little time exploring one of the great colonial cities.

We are flying next Monday with United into Morelia. Morelia was 35k air miles for both of us versus 35k ea using United air miles. About 3 weeks ago United had reduced their air miles from "Z" to Chicago. I was lucky enough to have 35k air miles credited to our account. The history of the area between Morelia and Patzquaro with all the different little villages is something to experience with a good tour guide who knows the area.

Last time I took a cab from GLD to Autobus Centro it was 260 pesos. That was the ticketed price.

I've taken the Diamante express bus between the 2 cities, but I took it from Zihua to M. City. It was great as the seats fold almost flat for sleeping. It was a bit more than the regular price but still very reasonable. Here is the Estrella de Oro link. http://www.estrelladeoro.com.mx/Oro-Clases-servicios.html
