Noisy birds--

I know this has been answered before but I can't find it.
There is a flock of birds, ground dwellers I think, that make one heck of a racket usually in the morning. They move around the hillside abouve La Ropa and sound like an old piece of machinery that needs oiling.
I thought they were Urracas but I looked this up and Urraca is a common magpie and this isn't what is making the noise.

The bird is called a chachalaca.

They often nest for the night in the trees in the estuary next to El Manglar. They are very loud from 100 feet away! Pretty birds to watch flying though.
However with all the tree cutting and lowland filling going on next door I can only surmise that the birds will soon be moving on. Sad

It would be nice if someone posted pictures of the ecocide going on even if they're not going to formally denounce it. Some photos would be very helpful so I could show them to the "responsible authorities". Is there no neighborhood association in La Ropa anymore?

They are the "alarm clock" at FriscoJuan Home in Ixtapa.
The first time I stayed there their racket began at 5:00 AM. I had no idea what it was but it only took a day or two to just roll over going back to sleep after they had passed through the area.
I understand they are related to the Turkey. Not sure about how they taste-------------Yet! LOL

Great tailed grackles. Black birds with a long tail, more personality than should be legal for a bird and a wide range of vocalizations that can't be mistaken for Chachalacas. Often found stealing your peanuts from your beach bag and looking straight up in the air as if to say, "Wasn't me!"

Chachalacas are some of our favorite Zihua birds. Love to hear the ratcheting sound they make and to watch them move around in the morning. Either they don't spook easily or they like to be watched at relatively close range. There is a hunting season for them in......Texas. And a double amen to everything Rob wrote on this topic!
