Two Week Checkpoint

Well it was 13 nights ago this wonderful trip began- thank God there are four weeks left. This is my eighth year now coming down and needless to say I'm sold for good! This year I had the pleasure of bringing my Dad down for his first Mexican experience. He was nervous a little about whether it would be to hot or how he'd like the food. After adjusting to the heat (we are from Saskatchewan) he settled into his short one week stay.
We walked daily up the road behind playa La Ropa and every day and night into town. Our first meal was at El Manglar and the Mahi Mahi in garlic was by far his favourite dish he had all week. We hit Papa Loca, La Viga del Captain, Paty's, the new Italian place (formerly Angelo's), Jungle Pizza, and finished up with Il Mare. He loved every meal and really was amazed by how every thing looked so unpolished but was brimming with character and energy. Especially the people. Now being a regular here my wife and I have made lots of friends so everywhere we went was like a homecoming. I was amazed how wait staff and restaurant owners remember my handle (el Chivo, a story for another day) and even my favourite dishes! My dad loved the people the same way everyone else does here. Very friendly and eager to lend a hand when possible!
He marvelled at the fact that every sunday the basket ball courts were teeming with families and children all just looking for a good time out. We made sure to get our gelato fill every night and never missed it once!
I could tell by day three he was hooked. We set up chairs on the beach with our umbrella and enjoyed cold cerveza along with a barrage of treats offered by the beach vendors walking by. The worry of what to do in the day was just replaced with relaxation and enjoying the world go by listening to the waves and soaking up the sun. The only worry after a few days was "shit I gotta go home on saturday!" Next year will be longer for sure-guaranteed.
My wife showed up on the Air Canada flight as my Dad's Westjet plane sailed off literally into the sunset.
Now having had my beauty here for a week we have comfortably shed our home skin for some much browner skin and the days seemingly melt into each other. You know your in the "mode" when you absolutely don't even remember or care what the day is. Time is of the essence only by where the sun appears in the sky and darn it I'm getting pretty good at clock reading by the sky. 3:00 is nappy time followed by strawberry daiquiris watching the sun set. We have some neat things planned but no real schedule. For our last week our brother and sister are coming down for their first visit. The pictures have made them very jealous and eager to get here. I've got a nice habit of riding my Mountain bike up the la ropa hill road 5 times every second day to ward of the liquor calories. The liquor is winning though!! I wish I could figure out the darn photo thing on here but I'll leave a link to my Facebook page with the Zihua 2014 link. I'll post again down the road as more great things happen. For now it's just a lather rinse repeat cycle. God I love it here!

Love reading these trip reports. We've got 23 days before we'll be doing the same. Your report reminds me of when we took my mom and dad to Puerto Vallarta. My parents had never done any traveling outside of the US and this was quite an adventure to them. They couldn't understand why the service was so slow. They even complained that the towels in their room were too thick! The funny thing is that the year that my father passed away, he was saving to take us all back to Mexico because he loved it so much after all. I am so glad we had that time with them.

Wonderful report, THANKS! I am jealous that you have your bike down there; I'd love to go up the road to nowhere every day, too! If we decide to spend eight weeks or so there, I'll definitely bring one down with me. I couldn't get your link to work, but I'll fiddle with the URL a bit and see if anything changes.

Glad Fred had a great time Freddy. Please thank Frosso again for the delivery. We still have about 60 days to go, but am loving the trip reports......The only kind of bummer is that the few people we have told about Zihua, now go there more than us! Oh yeah, and it's snowing here. Keep those reports coming bud. All the best.
