A short 8 days in Zi was definitely only a teaser that brings us back year after year to this paradise. But some day when we no longer have to return to a Monday morning workday, we promise to stay longer.
We had a wonderful time enjoying all that we could, from the warm, tropical breezes to the hot sun, cold beverages, delicious food and meeting board posters on beautiful Las Gatas. It was f un meeting you all and thanks to Carol for organizing!
Our stay was only marred by trying to leave as our flight was canceled and we had to stay an extra day (DARN!) compliments of United Airlines. Then it was on to Houston where we chased more canceled flights, flight delays, stand by flights, long lines, etc. arriving back in Chicago to dig our car out of long-term parking - and snow - for the 3 hr. ride home.
When does the next flight leave to go back??!!

Do you know why the flight was canceled?
The plane that was meant to carry Angela home broke in Houston.
The guy that pushes the plane out, pushed before pilot had the brakes off.
Kerplunk! Tow bar snapped, smashed into plane. We de-planed an hour later with an 8 hr wait before new plane and crew were found. By this time it was pretty late and the airline had to get special permission from Mex govt to overnight the plane and crew here in Z.
We were supposed to arrive 2:04, actually arrived 10:30pm. Looong wait.
The upside is we met several groups of great people that we are still having fun with...it's all good!
Man..who would have ever thought!!! Thanks for letting me know. Have a great time there. We are in Texas right now, about 13 miles from the Tamaulipas border. Wintering. Unseasonably chilly and cloudy here.
Judi - great to hear the real story. We only heard that it was a mechanical problem and that it would be coming in late from Houston - too late for the pilots to turn around and go back to Houston. Seems they needed some sleep! I can't imagine why!!
Even though it was a long day - and night - for us, we made lemonade out of lemons - rather we made margeritas out of tequila at the resort in Ixtapa, and ended up having a nice evening, meeting new people and enjoying the festivities.

Feb. 10th we were flying back to Chicago on United to drive home to Ky. When we checked in at the counter we were told there would be a 2hr delay for the plane coming from Houston- it seams the crew had to many flight hours and another crew had to be found to make the r/t flight. The agent told us the next flight at 8:30 pm had 1 seat left so we would be given a hotel room in Houston and get a flight to Chicago on Tuesday morning. When we went to get our luggage in Houston, there was a United agent asking the names of the passengers coming from "Z". I thank because I wanted to get to the airport early we were handed tickets for the 8:30 pm flight to Chicago. Worse part about the whole thing was leaving 89 degree weather and when we came out of the terminal in Chicago it was -9. Funny part there were no rental cars in the South Suburbs on Tuesday and finally found 1 on Wed. late morning- the insurance company will not cover the cost of a rental at O'Hare or Midway because of the fees tacked on(you can drop the car off but not pick one up)
