Zihuatanejo lost one of its most popular and successful restauranteurs and a very good hard-working man today with the passing of Don Daniel of Daniel's Restaurant, Porto di Mare and Casa Arcadia. His family and friends will be at his velorio all day and tonight at Funerales del Pacífico.

Wow! I will miss him greeting us when we walk along the Paseo. Many years of history there. RIP
Adiós a Don Daniel
Oh, how sad. For 14 years in a row, our first night in town was always dinner at Daniel's. Daniel always greeted us with smiles and wonderful service. He has been a "fixture" of Zihua to us. We will miss him. Our sympathy to his family, friends and staff.
Adiós a Don Daniel
My friend Daniel was a wonderful and kind man. Full of humanity and life he always shared himself selflessly with those around him. My heart goes out to his family. He will be deeply missed.

Our condolences to the family.....we had our first moonlight dinner on the beach at his restaurant on our first here, he and his staff were excellent and they were part of the reason we got hooked on this place.

Oh, I am just sick at hearing this news. I agree with so many of the above posts - we ALWAYS stopped to visit with Daniel when we came to town, we always ate our first meal in town, there, he always greeted us with a hug and a freebie of some sort. He will be deeply missed by my family. Playa Principal will never be the same. Rest in peace, dear friend.

My heart hurts! This is such sad news! I've known him for years, and can't even imagine being in Zihuatanejo without Daniel being there. I will miss him!
Adiós a Don Daniel
We were very saddened to hear of Daniel's passing. We have spent many mid day hours enjoying his hospitality and ocean breezes. He seemed to be a quiet man but still water runs very deep. Our return next winter just will not be the same, but he is basking in God's arms. May he enjoy eternal rest.
Adiós a Don Daniel - a correction
While some of you may have known what I meant, I want to correct my own message re: Daniel as a "fixture" of Zihuatanejo. He was the essence of goodness and kindness and a truly great representative of hospitality in Zihua.
Adiós a Don Daniel
Sad news Rob! And for the first time this year I didn't stop for a meal at Daniel's as I would go every year but it was mostly on a date night and this time, she is vegetarian so we went somewhere else. But I always enjoyed my meals there and he was a great restaurateur and Zihua lost a good man. My condolences to the family!

Oh my darling Daniel.
He was such a great man, we shared such amazing memories.
He was a sensitive man with such a great heart.
Someone wrote there was a connection to his decline and
The mishap of one of us employees?
My heart is filled with warm beautiful memories of this kind soul
May he rest in peace

Daniel was diabetic and had been sick for a couple of weeks. His son told us when he had the heart attack they revived him several times in the hospital but he was just too weak.

We will miss him. He was a great person. We knew him for many years. He once had a restaurant in Hotel Imelda and would make dinners for large groups. Was a great time! So sorry he is gone.

Daniel made a big impression on me with the simple elegance of his personal greetings to his customers. (Not to mention that he was also willing to indulge my Spanish.)
My Dad was a restaurateur, so I've always been very aware of how folks around the world do it, and Daniel did it right. We'll miss that warm, personal touch.
