Earthquake Update
I'm pleased to report that in the last 14 hours I have not been jolted out of my hamaca by any temblors or replicas here in beautiful downtown Colonia La Madera, however I just received a new report about the quake that was felt in parts of Vancouver Island and the Lower Mainland of BC.

They'll need to lay down some heavy plywood to support the crane to be used in righting that chair!

So funny. Having been on the beach in Ixtapa for the Good Friday Quake, I would still prefer being in Ixtapa than Minnesota. Did my spring flower and veggie plant shopping today..$200.00 of beautiful Amish grown plants. And I can't put them out yet...may have frost!!.
Thank you Mexico for all the limes I wanted to eat and bouganvillas along the road. Bough one flowering one today to get me through the summer~~~~
AAHHH, Ixtapa. (OK ZIHUAAAAH TOO).

Trade secret. But I am allowed to say no patio furniture was harmed or insulted in the production of that piece.
Meanwhile I'm back at my little pied a terre following a grueling first full day here.
Bad news first. I had two specific quests this trip. Trying a dish called Chiles en Nogada and looking to try the beverage: PULQUE, which is a sticky beer-like drink that is the precursor (probably wrong term to use) of tequila and mezcal.
Apparently Chiles en Nogada are unavailable due to 2 key ingredients being totally out of season. Pomegranates and walnuts. This is a September-November kind of dish. Now how was I supposed to know that?
And the lady at the liquor store across from the Cancha didn't just respond negatively to my request for Pulque en latta (in tins like beer) ...she said and very emphatically too ..."No Existe" It doesn't exist!
This morning after breakfast I humped it over to COMMERCIALE, arguably the only other place it might logically be..and they had 18 brands of American beer over and above their domestic stuff, but there was no Pulque to be found. So I've given up. It's a washout. Too bad.
Otherwise, I had a very fine breakfast at La Comarca Tacos, and then hiked over the hill to Playa La Ropa for a look around. Things are a bit different than 2 years ago. Many more massage emporiums for one thing..I literally had massajistas chasing me down the beach offering 200 peso an hour massages..looks there's somebody offering Aztec or pre-Columbian massage, which I've never heard of before. I just hope it doesn't involve some surprise heart surgery with an obsidian knife after being drugged senseless on mushroom tea. More live music, which was a pleasant surprise, but maybe shouldn't have been because it's still the Easter holidays. There was a brass oompah/mariachi style combo and a very talented man who played guiter and had those pan flutes rigged up like a rag-player's harmonica over and above the usual trobadores...
Looked up my old friend Venaye, who runs the massage gig at Villa Mex. And she worked me over nicely before I had to dash to a wonderful dinner engagement at Papas Locos with Carol and Paul.
Just a very full, happy day, and settling in nicely.
Enjoy Grenudo
Have a good time Brother.
If time permits spend a day at la barra con Tony Macaroni.

Harry, you can get chilis en nogada at La Mexicana restuarnat (a great place!) in Troncones -- maybe only on Monday nights, can't remember -- but they are a specialty. You can get pulque at any number of roadside stands in Guerroro or Michoacan and I imagine lots of others -- think home brew and go for it.
chiles en nogada
I thought this was a regular item on the menu at El Pueblito. Could be mistaken, but I don't think so.

Chiles en Nogada
This is normally a seasonal dish (August, September, October) because that is when the pomegranate seeds are available. Also, the 3 colors (red, white, green) are supposed to correspond to the colors of the Mexican Flag, and are associated with Dia de Independencia. Or so I have been told.
