Best Hotels for Folks w/Mobility Issues (Dining, too!)

So, if you had a walker or a cane where would you like to or prefer to stay in Zihua/Ixtapa?

We have been visiting for many years, but never considered where folks with limited mobility or challenges with "getting around" would have a great experience or still enjoy with ease a happy hour, a day relaxing at their resort, or sunset dinner!

At La Ropa check out Casa Iguana, Hotel Villas Las Azucenas, Villa Mexicana, Viceroy, Las Urracas, Casa Gloria María, and Bungalows Vepao.

At La Madera take a look at Villa Cruz del Mar, Adelamar Bungalows, Hotel Palacios, and Villas Miramar.

Hotels in Zihuatanejo

I think I'd vote for Villa Mexicana. Right on La Ropa. Very few stairs. We have stayed there in the past. It is very basic, which is why we don't stay there anymore, but an awful lot of people love it. We call Catalina our home now, but it does have a LOT of stairs that would probably prove difficult.

You might want to consider a condo complex. There are 2 on La Ropa that are handicapped accessible...ground floor units- absolutely no stairs involved. I have known people in wheelchairs that have stayed in both- La Ceiba and Los Mangos (where I live).

You might want to check out Res. Los Mangos policy, as the president of that company told me they do not have liability insurance for wheel chair use.

Gee, I believe they are looking for a user friendly place to stay, not someone they could sue. To me, that's the beauty of Mexico, people take more responsibility for their own actions without running to an attorney right a way.

Don't forget OUR HOUSE on Playa Blanca (La Barrad de Potosi). It is designed for handicapped, is reeasonable and Cecil (owner) is very accommating and a great cook! Right on the beach.

The original poster is asking about accessibility for someone using a cane, or walker. I mentioned the 2 complexes as being accessible for wheelchair, so for sure someone with a cane/walker would not have any problems. Both complexes have liability insurance. I can't imagine that the policy discriminates against anyone in a wheelchair, and don't think there would be any reason to do so. That possible discrimination concept at Los Mangos will certainly be addressed.

Villa Mexicana ----- Good choice, with low level to beach , restaurant, and their pool!

What are the other restaurants right next door called - is one Paty's? Looks like you can walk right over easily!

Elvira's is just on the other side of Pati's. The restaurant at Villa's Mexicana has always had good food when I have eaten there also.

I've been staying at the Villa Mexicana for the last 13 years and it's perfect for me (note my posting name). There is an alternative ramp for the 3 or 4 steps at the hotel entrance, where you can easily catch a cab to restaurants. Ask for a ground floor room, and the beach, the pool, the massage tent and the dining room are all at the same level. At the beach, you can choose your palapa on the sandy side or the side with stone tiles. (I pick the latter.) The only drawback of VM is that there is no railing going down the steps of the pool and they require some careful navigation. Otherwise, I love this place and the friendly people there (guests and staff). It feels like home. You won't be disappointed.
