From Z Night to Z Day

Last evening Lupita and I marveled at the fact that for the first time in memory we were able to enjoy sitting in one of the benches at Zihuatanejo's main plaza and enjoy the view along with the peace and quiet (well, except for the music from the bar Carlos). This is more what Zihuatanejo should be like and was its historical attraction years ago before overpopulation and a gazillion bars arrived. Of course less than 50 meters away on the beach there was a beach soccer tournament going on with all the usual accoutrements. But the plaza was a bastion of serenity as a light sprinkle began cooling the evening air and making for absolutely PERFECT sleeping weather. Moments like this are worth years of patiently waiting.
And dawn of course lured me to the beach for a look-see, just in time to catch a fishing panga glide by against the backdrop of the subtle morning colors before the sun broke over the horizon.
There's no place like HOME... in Zihuatanejo!

We've often noted the lack of shade at Zihua's La Cancha plaza/zocalo - at least compared to many other zocalos in the rest of the country - but your photo makes it look absolutely bosky.

There used to be many more trees including two huge amate trees that provided shade over much of the plaza, but the murderous cacique and ex-governor Rubén Figueroa Alcocer instructed the local government to remove them so that the plaza would lend itself more to large political rallies. So we lost most of the trees, gardens and seating on the whim of that disgraced bastard who had the gall to rename the plaza in his name, though the first thing the local citizens did when he was forced out of power due to the massacre at Aguas Blancas was remove all the signs that bore his name.

And what seating and shade he did not remove was taken away by Alejandro Bravo. The stage for the performing school kids, music, and all sorts of other entertainment right along with all the seating to put the metal animals and water sprinkler that never has worked was the biggest injustice to the cancha that I could have ever imagined.
Now they build a makeshift stage occasional and haul in plastic chairs.
