GOVERNOR STEPS ASIDE

He was an obstacle to progress and justice in our state.

Governor Aguirre asked for a "leave of absence" just a few minutes ago, finally! The people of Guerrero have been clamoring for him to step down ever since he admitted to knowing that many municipalities in Guerrero were under the control of organized criminals but that he did nothing about it. Actually, he had admitted this several years ago after first entering office, but no one thought anything of the truism back then. But now it looks like Mexicans are evolving and demanding that their elected representatives comply with their duties instead of shirking them. We'll see how far this goes.

In my personal opinion he waited too long to do the right thing. Even though I voted for Aguirre, it was because the alternatives were simply puke awful. Unfortunately that's the way it is in too many elections.

Aguirre imposed his will on whims and just to make his personal resume of so-called accomplishments look better, such as insisting that in Zihuatanejo we "certify" the beaches Playa La Ropa and Playa Las Gatas that led to the dog ban, and the completely inept repaving project of Las Salinas that sat idle for over 9 months after locals complained the new road had no drainage, which it still won't have but at least work on the road has started back up so it isn't sitting there as just another abandoned over-budget construction project. He also insisted on the dredging of Las Salinas Lagoon in a manner that ignored every applicable law and caused it to be another botched project and a huge waste of money. The list is long and torturous of all the crap he's insisted on that our local politicians permitted as "state assistance" when they were no such thing but our local politicians either wanted to skim the money from the bloated budgets or to get in/stay in the good graces of the governor for future favors.

Hopefully now Guerrero can at least begin the process of progressing and redressing many injustices endured over decades of caciquism and a growing acceptance of corruption and infiltration of organized criminals (usually with strong ties to drug-running) in our state.

Now if only the USA would decriminalize and legalize stupidly banned substances and put an end to Prohibition 2.0 we might actually ALL be able to move forward towards more positive progress instead of an increasingly militarized police state on both sides of the border. But nah, our northern neighbors can't even pass a budget or hardly talk civil to their political opponents, and in that respect for all or problems Mexico is way ahead and it looks like we'll just have to continue working things out unilaterally! Too bad. We could do so much better tackling this beast together!
