I decided to fly into Morelia and bus to Zihuatanejo Thanksgiving week because the fare is 1/2 of that to ZIH this year, besides that I will get to see some beautiful country. My question is--- can anyone recommend a Hotel near Centro in Morelia for a 1 night stay? I will only be there from one afternoon til the next to catch the bus to Zihuatanejo and would like to walk around and see as much as possible while I am there. Any input will be appreciated.

Casa Rosa is nice but over priced. The first evening we were offered a drink not knowing until we checked out that we had to pay for them- nothing was said at the beginning. I will agree it is in a very good location being about 2 to 3 blocks from the main street. There are a lot of churches close by that you can go in and view- very worth while.

Casa Rosa b&b. We were there in October 2 years ago. I received the recommendation from this board. After staying there found other places just as nice for less money. We stayed in January at a hotel next to the viaduct that was very nice and less price- we had to find it because our hotel that had been a lay over for the nuns serving the villages closed after our 2nd night. We were treated good but we were upset that when we were offered this drink we were not told that it was extra and each night had a couple, then the bill came when we checked out. I know a few things about the manager that will not discuss- the incident was written up on Trip Adviser and I was given all the details.

The same Trip Advisor where after copying all my links and descriptions years ago they banned me from their forums for daring to recommend some of those same links? That Trip Advisor? Where travel agents pretending to help folks actually steer them clear of properties that don't pay them a fee? Where really anyone can say anything about anyplace or any service and the website owners could care less as long as they sell travel packages to anywhere. That Trip Advisor? Who then scans my websites for e-mail addresses and writes to my clients telling them all they've "won an award" and would they please place a link to them on their website? That Trip Advisor? One of the most unscrupulous websites ever allowed to call itself a business!

Amigo, with all due respect, B&B means Bed & Breakfast, not Bed & Booze. ;-)

When my wife and I stayed at La Casona Rosa one of the first things I inquired about was the costs of things like food and drink on the premises. After all, they ARE a small business trying to stay in business. I don't believe I've ever stayed at a small hotel where they gave away alcoholic beverages. Have you? I believe the norm is to charge for such things, isn't it?

I have no dog in this fight, but I am now curious. I read all the negative reviews on TA (1) and the so so reviews (3) and none mention what you are talking about. I also did not know that they serve drinks there, but if they do, I would expect a charge. Are there places cheaper? I am sure there are. There are also ones that are more. The original poster did not ask for the cheapest place in Morelia, and yes I could recommend that one as well, though I did not like it, they asked for somewhere convenient to explore the Historic District.

As far as anything you may know about the "manager" from two years ago, it would be a moot point as there is no longer a manger there, the owner looks after everything. If you are speaking of her, then that is another issue altogether.

The problem was with the previous manager I guess- I did not know the owner had taken over. I have the highest regard for him. The problem over the cocktail was we were asked if we would like to try a special one- no mention if there was a charge for the offer was made like we have soft drinks in the fridge. When we came back in the evening we were asked if we would like the cocktail- what would you thank. The problem with the previous manager was she took advantage of a couple of guest in taking a friend to be dropped off at a village on the way to do the tour and then decided to take the tour with the guest and they were very up set because they were not asked and had to pay everything.

Well, I'm not much for trip reports but I will be sure to let everyone know about my experience with Casona Rosa. I'm not hard to please and have enjoyed some of the memorable experiences in Mexico by just going with the flow even when things are different than expected. 99.5% of the time the Mexican people have been kind and gracious to me and my family on every occasion.
I trust Wil and Rob's advice alot more than anything I would read on Trip Advisor or any other forum. The folks at Casona Rosa have my reservation and have gone way overboard to make sure I will enjoy my one night stay. Only 3 weeks from today to Morelia then on to Zihuatanejo!

We've stayed there too and would again a heartbeat. Great location, huge room. Fantastic breakfast. it was a lot of fun visiting with the other folks that were staying there in the courtyard. I really don't remember what we paid, but I know it seemed very reasonable for what we got.
