20 de Noviembre Día de la Revolución parade cancelled

The annual parade through downtown Zihuatanejo for Día de la Revolución on November 20 has been cancelled this year "so as not to risk the children's safety".

As a downtown resident who lives on the parade route, I can't say as I'm real disappointed to miss all the noise or the hassle of getting up at 6:00 am to move the car, but I do feel bad for the children and our visitors who so look forward to the parade each year. I know the children have been rehearsing for many weeks. Oh well.

The CETEG and the SNTE are organizing a march that day. For several days I've been pleading politely with them not to or at least to consider the wishes of the locals who do not wish to see such demonstrations, but all I got for my troubles was a lot of insults, rationalizations and I think someone blocked me from their Facebook page.

For inquiring minds:
CETEG = Coordinadora Estatal de Trabajadores de la Educación en Guerrero.
SNTE = el Sindicato Nacional de Trabajadores de la Educación.

Its a shame they couldn't hold their demonstration a different day.

They seem to be in MOB RULE mentality. Quite unopen to polite dialogue and intolerant of dissimilar points of view. As a former teacher I thought I could at least discuss the matter with them, but all of a sudden it was 1959 and I was on the wrong side in the wrong revolution. Not sure what to expect next Thursday, but pity the poor fool who tries to spraypaint graffiti on our home!

I think they underlined yet again the point that they care more about themselves than the kids.

Just a pregunta, so most folks are observing the holiday today, to create the long weekend? A lot of "official" stuff seemed closed in centro.

If so, maybe it will be a little quieter this coming weekend, there were some real yahoos in our place Friday and Saturday in La Madera....

They didn't want to get stopped, blocked, hijacked by the taxista terrorists for using private vehicles to pull parade floats, and transporting "tourists" from one place to another on privately-owned horses.

it is on November 20th.

The holiday moves to the previous Monday to avoid creating
a "bridge" / puente, which is when you have a Monday or a
Friday between the holiday and everybody will take that day
off.

So today November 17th is the Mexican Revolution Anniversary Observed !!

Well, they observe it today so that a long holiday weekend can be enjoyed to stimulate tourism, but it will also be observed on the 20th because the teachers use any excuse to miss class, and then since there won't be any school Thursday they'll take Friday off just for the heck of it and create another unofficial long holiday weekend. The lack of professionalism and seriousness by our teachers is a huge factor in too many of our problems, especially here in Guerrero as well as Oaxaca and Chiapas.

I'm so sorry to hear that it's cancelled. We were looking forward to seeing all the kids all dressed up but alas, politics often takes the day. I just feel for the kids that have practiced for so long.
