We'll just have to agree to disagree with just about everything stated in the article. Especially with the claim of "successful promotion" by the local, state and federal governments. While the cheapened all-included hotels in Ixtapa may do well by their corporate standards, attracting busloads and cars full of tourists from El Bajío and Mexico City at rock bottom rates that even many of the small Zihuatanejo hotels can't beat, their business model has severely hurt the local community.

It will take much more involvement by local Travel Agencies in both the US and Canada to get the Ixt/Zih destination back to a viable option. We have been going down from Mich. since 1992 and we bring 12 at least at a time, but we have to work hard with our travel agent to get good deals. This area is so much more enjoyable than the other promoted areas in Mexico so it is up to us to educate and be persistent in getting our travel agents to promote it. Until we get more interest and travel we will be cursed with poor flight options and high prices! We are booked 12 of us again this March and will be for the foreseeable future and promote the heck out of Ixt/Zih. We have 3 new couples coming down this year at different times and wish them a great trip. At the risk of being too wordy, we love this place so Push, Push and Push some more to get Travel Agents to contact their people to look at this area. Sorry for the long message!

One can only hope for an improvement. In a story about the massacre in Iguala on NPR today, they mentioned that tourism in Guerrero sucked as a result.
