Christmas for the local children
Last year we spent the holidays in PV, and found a local restaurant that took toy donations, then handed them out to local kids on Christmas Eve.It was a great experience for my family to see the joy on other kids faces. Does anyone know of something similar in Zihua?
We'll be there for two weeks over Christmas, after a ten year absence. Can't hardly wait!
Christmas for the local children
In Mexico presents are given to children on January 6th. Perhaps you are not familiar with Mexican Christmas traditions. Here is a great article on Dia de los tres magos.
They don't have Santa Claus here!
One of my all time favorite memories was staying at Laura's in La Barra and seeing the kids coming out to look at the stars the night before and having their gifts the next morning.

Zihuatanejo Christian Fellowship would be a good start.
Christmas for the local children
The Captain's Daughter Restaurant/La Playa Bar always have a place to leave toys etc for Christmas for the kids. I believe that Juanito also takes gifts to kids at Christmas. Santa Claus stops on Christmas Eve and sees lots of kids I know in Zihuatanejo. Then the Mexican Custom of receiving gifts is still on Jan 6th.
As far back as 45 years ago when my parents were spending Christmas in Zihua, Santa Claus brought homemade candy, cookies, and small gifts to many kids in LaNoria. My Dad had a big bag over his shoulder and went here and there delivering. Mom would be home baking. The few Christmas's I was in Zihua back then I was one of the elf bakers.

So sweet!
Christmas for the local children
I was in a residential part of Mexico City 2 days prior to Christmas, several years ago. There was one very wide street with about 50 Santa Claus booths- all with long line ups of families with kids to have their photo taken on Santa's knee. It was quite a site!

Local custom and tradition is not to give presents to children on Christmas Day, as our foreign visitors from the north do, but on Día de los Reyes Magos, which falls on January 6. The local church Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe will collect toys for distribution on Día de los Reyes Magos.

I followed Tess's link and then searched the mexonline site for more and found this page about some other Mexican customs around Christmas time, particularly Las Posadas:

Nothing specific to Zihuatanejo was mentioned (Rob did mention this in another reply to the OP.), but Taxco was noted.
