Looking for two pieces of art. One is a floor piece, maybe 4 ft high. The second piece is a wall piece, not too expensive, for a small room. Would appreciate any place in Zihua to look.

How about Shacks Fifth Avenue. Also a nice place just south of Mediteranne restaurant same side of the street as the Inglesia.
For a brown water navy guy, your recon skills are getting rusty!

Thanks but not looking for photographs. These are great but thinking more like a 3 ft wide WC or oil done by a local with a Mexican theme. The taller floor piece will be harder to find but is needed to break up everything hanging on walls. Ideally this would be by a local artist or student.

check out Maura Wences Gutierrez on facebook. Message her in English- she will reply in English. She recently (summer) moved to a new location, so best to check with her on where she is. Lots of student and local works at her place, including her own paintings.

Check out my friends Rafael y Vicky's store "Arte Mexicano Nopal" next to Bandidos Restaurant on Calle 5 de Mayo, in the next block up from the church.
I'll second that. My favorite shop and one we stop at (at least once) each time we are there. Very nice people too.
Check out his paintings, on display at Rufo's. Annibal says he doesn't feel like painting more right now, so high demand! Rufo acts as his agent....
While I'm very much in favor of supporting local vendors, there isn't much in the way of arts and crafts produced locally. If you have the time and the inclination, you might consider traveling to some of the areas where much is produced. Some years ago I took a pottery tour in Michoacán state with TraditionsMexico. Different and wonderful stuff made in each village. They also offer trips to other parts of the country. There's a store in Morelia (sorry, forgot the name) which carries a variety of things made in that state. We had a clay Frida Kahlo made by Josefina Aguilar, just outside of Oaxaca city. She's about 4 feet tall and can be seen in the gallery of our website. We staid at Casa Colonial who's owner, Jane Robison, knows Josefina and can take you there.

For the wall art, check out Arte Nativo (see http://www.artenativozihuatanejo.com for examples and location) and Mayren Navarrete who has a small studio (several artists) on the second floor across from the Scotia Bank parking lot (in back of the bank). The art of both is Mexican/Zihua themed and very reasonably priced for original works. For a sculptural piece in fired clay, there's a guy on the La Ropa road, whose name I can't recall. He works in of a hotel/condo (whose name I also don't recall) where he displays his work. Its the last place on the left before the road splits to go either up the hill (straight) or to the right towards la Gaviota restaurant. Just ring the bell at the gate and he'll be happy to let you in and show you his work. Also very reasonably priced.

If you're looking for paintings, check out Guadalupe Gaytan. She is a young woman who has only been painting for a few years, but her work is fabulous! She has a website www.guadalupegaytan.com.

Bob, I believe it is down near the end of Juan Alvarez. There is a studio there run by a gentleman who is also a painter. Can't remember his name. Maybe Rob can help!

I believe that is correct.
I think the studio is called Arte Nativo and the other painter is Alberto Tapia.
They also do a lively business teaching drawing, painting, and music.

And right below our home on Juan N. Alvarez, just half a block from Arte Nativo is another small art gallery. Stop in and take a look.
Don't think it was mentioned but we found a piece we may purchase at Suazo Art Gallery, beside the movie theatre
