snorkel/SUP question
We kinda liked the kayak/snorkel tour offered by Beto where you kayak from La Ropa to Las Gatas. Has anyone done that?
We'd like to try some stand up paddling too. I've read you can rent equipment in front of the Viceroy and also near La Perla with a company called Twin Dolphin. Has anyone done that?
We'll be at Aura del Mar Dec 22-26, 2014
Thanks!
snorkel/SUP question
We SUP literally every morning. Watch for us!
There are probably 6 different places you can rent SUP's, kayak's and other toys on La Ropa.
You can paddle to Gatas, have lunch, and do your snorkel right from there. They have rental equipment for individuals, and have a "snorkel board" for groups and the less secure snorkelers.
You have loads of options.
snorkel/SUP question
Thanks for the info! I hadn't thought about SUPing over to Las Gatas, but why not? We've never done SUP, but wanted to wait until we were somewhere where the water was warm to try it, for those times we will no doubt fall off the board. As a daily SUPer, apart from Las Gatas, are there other areas in the Bay you like SUPing to? It will all be new to us! And I guess we won't find rental companies at Playa Madera (where we are staying)---mostly La Ropa?
Thanks again!
snorkel/SUP question
We'd be shocked if there weren't SUP rentals on Madera.
We live on the south end of La Ropa, which is where we start. First we go to the rocks (the links) looking for spotted eagle rays and warming up. At the links, it's not unusual to see a turtle or two. From there, it depends. Sometimes, to Madera, past Playa Principal, and straight across to Gatas. Other times, straight to Gatas from the links. Often to the far side of Gatas, surf into the inside, then paddle out by the pier. Other days, back along the beach going south, but always ending up at the south end of the bay, in the shade (it gets HOT) to check on our favorite turtle that we see every day.
We head out about 7:30, 8ish, after dog duties. We welcome those that want to give it a quick try. We'll give you a couple of tips to make your rental time more enjoyable. If we see you in the bay struggling, we'll tactfully, we hope, see if you'd like to talk about how to do it!
It's easy, fun and great exercise!
snorkel/SUP question
So far we've never seen SUP rentals anywhere along Playa La Madera.
We were last there in March of this year and will return in March 2015.
Aura del Mar might have boards for their guests.

There is the perfect situation for someone to set up a little business!
snorkel/SUP question
SUP sounds better the more I hear about it! Are the "rocks (links)" you refer to across the bay from La Ropa around that little peninsula serviced by Paseo del Morro? Are there any dangers we should be aware of in Zihua Bay: rocks close to surface, unfriendly fish, currents? Despite all these questions, we're not timid about trying SUP and I'm sure we will do fine---just need to keep our balance! Isn't the worst that could happen is that we'll fall off into beautiful 80 degree water?
Thanks again for all the great tips!
snorkel/SUP question
Falling is good because you get a chance to cool off.
I fell off yesterday, when a couple we have spoken to on the beach blew us a kiss. It knocked me off the board!
No critters to concern yourself with, except seeing beautiful ones.
There are a few rocks just below the surface at the links,(the rocks between La Ropa and Madera) but they are very visible.
Zihua is a perfect place to learn to paddle, and paddle!
