different day, different rules

Yesterday morning on La Madera, we were told by a very nice young man that it was fine to walk on the beach with our dog, as long as we had a leash and pick-up bags. Today, the same young man told us that we cannot walk on the beach with our dog. When I asked him why, he shrugged and said, "my boss." Since we were crossing the beach on our way to the sea walk, we continued walking as he walked behind us, politely but firmly telling us we had to leave the beach. We were in the process of leaving, but I guess not fast enough. I am not blaming him. Just wondering what happened. Anyone else have a recent beach experience? We have not been to La Ropa for several days and are now wondering if we will encounter the same thing there.

Finally, this afternoon, for the first time, we walked the beach during prime time with our dogs. Walked from La Perla to Pirata, past many official types, including a doggie cop. No one even looked at us.
Hopefully it's not starting all over again!

That is very good news. Hope it continues. We will be there tomorrow and see what happens.

DAAbuilder HOME ALONE! Pets are part of a family they belong.

I have this idea that someone could make a video like the one of the woman walking around New York being accosted by rude men making comments; but this would be of nice folks with well behaved leashed dogs on La Ropa. Dogs that are being cleaned up after. Someone with a video camera like a GoPro could walk in front and tape any harassment. We're not there anymore; but surely there's someone with a video camera who can be persuaded to stroll the beaches and see what happens.

Today, whilst sitting with our dog at Paty's on La Ropa we watched a beach creep approach a 6 year old girl who had a tiny Chihuahua, on a leash, at the waters edge. He was obviously trying to tell this terrified child that her dog shouldn't be on La Ropa. Her whole family, about 8 local Mexicans, were just a few yards away. This very unpleasant man then spoke to the family telling then that there were signs at the entrances to the beach. To their great credit they totally ignored him and continued their family day out on the beach.
Following this Paty called me over to speak with some journalists from a local newspaper. They informed me that our ineffective Presidente had told them that no-one had complained about banning dogs on the beaches of Zihuatanejo! I brought them up to date on the reality of our campaign to get this unwarranted policy overturned for domesticated family pets, and indicated them to the family nearby.
It is now clear that the dog owners and visitors need to have a rally on La Ropa with all the dogs we can muster, so the local newspaper can display the truth of the matter. Paty and I will arrange this for a date in January - watch this space.
It appears that La Ropas arch-enemy Francisco Ibarra, of La Perla infamy, told Presidente Eric Fernadez that a dog had bitten a small girl on Las Gattas. This is totally unverified, and is typical of Ibarras campaign of misinformation against pet owning residents and visitors. Boycott his establishment, if you are a dog lover - or a person who does not want to contribute to the erosion of the character of our fine Mexican village and its family (not just tourist) beaches.

Felix, you've said it all,No 1 the restaurant to boycott,That lying owner is a sad case, that's neither here nor there, BUT.. a dog walk in front of his sorely serviced restaurant on an NFL playoff game Sunday would be a hoot and a woof, we could cheer louder than the 4x100 football fans and they'd still have to wait FOREVER for their food. Elena S, our son is coming Jan. 6, for 3 weeks, hes a GoPro Pro from Half Moon Bay, Cal.(home of Go Pro) and I'm sure if we can pry it off of his paddle board for a short time he wiil record the doggie walk for all to enjoy.

How did it appear to you that Ibarra told that story? Or is this just another case of "he said, they said"? Are you stating fact or just repeating a "rumor"? Which in that case would make you a rumor monger. If it was totally unverified why did you bring it up?

It seems to me if Ibarra doesn't want dogs in and around his establishment, he has a right to feel that way. What gives you the self righteous position to tell him otherwise?

I am a dog lover my self, I have a wonderful JRT who has been my friend for 12 years. But I don't let her interfere with other people. I don't like undisciplined dogs which stick their noses where they don't belong or make a nusiance of themselves while the owners think they are "cute".

Keep your dog leashed, under control and away from me.

Sounds like you and your JRT were made for each other!

Of course we all agree that dogs should be under control by their owners. If someone was bitten by a dog, it was the owner's fault. But that is not a reason to ban all dogs from all beaches. And yes, Francisco has a right to ban dogs from his restaurant. But he is on a campaign to ban all dogs from all beaches in Zihuatanejo. I have been friends with him for 17 years. Because of his attitude, I no longer patronize his restaurant.
