Hi. My parents stay at Villa Mexicana each year but they are booked. Do you have any suggestions for a similar type of hotel...both in terms of cost and location? Thank you!!!

Yes, the Catalina Beach Resort right next door. The hotel that best represents the old Zihuatanejo many of us fell in love with decades ago.

Thank you. This looks great. Are the two hotels within walking distance of each other?

They are literally right next door to each other. Catalina overlooks Villa Mexicana.

What about Hotel Villas Las Azucenas? The Catalina appears to be quite a bit more expensive than the Villa Mexicana.

I believe Villas La Azucenas would more suit your parents if they loved and stayed at villas Mexicana. The biggest difference for them is Azucenas does not have front beach access to lounge chairs etc.

While there are indeed lots of steps, there are plenty of places to rest and admire the plantings and bay. The rooms are larger by far than VM, come with a refrigerator, couches inside, chaises and hammocks outside on your private or semi private deck and breakfast is included. They will even supply a coffee maker so you can have that first cup of fresh ground Zihautanejo coffee before breakfast. The beach set up is the best on La Ropa. We wouldn't stay anywhere else. (We actually did stay at VM the first couple of trips, but it was just to basic for us-for example unless I brought a plastic chair inside, there was no place to sit other than the bed.

I am glad you posted that as I have considered staying there instead of Catalina where I have stayed.

I agree that Las Azucenas seems to an excellent suggestion. It is beside the street entrance to Villas Mexicana- so it is very close. Also right there are Paty's and Elvira's restaurants where you can park on a lounge chair for the day.
