Morelia - Mercado de Dulces

Rob. I actually checked the Archives looking for the post with information on the Mercado de Dulces in Morelia. I found that you referenced it in a post from a couple of years ago:

"Did you find the Mercado de Dulces? I could intentionally lose myself in there. :-D"

I would like to lose myself there but no one actually said where it was. I would like to find that Mercado. Can anyone give me some references points so we can locate it? Of course, my interest is purely intellectual:blush:

It's in a big building that also is occupied by lots of artisans in a central square. You can't miss it.

It is one of my favorite places to visit. I walk around and look and see everything and the smells keep me going back. Sugar is a wonderful smell.

Speaking of sugar, my husband has an issue with some kinds of stinging insects. Not generally honey bees but we tend to be cautious because if he gets stung, it ain't pretty. Tim's article prominently mentions bees.

Should my husband find another activity while I go to the market or do the bees stay focused on the displays?

He'll be fine. You'd really have to try hard to get stung in the mercado de dulces. He'll be wearing long pants and a long sleeve shirt. Put a hat on him and he's good to go! The bees are not interested in the humans, and the vendors do a good job of shooing them away.

Be sure to try the ate (AH tay). It is a specialty there and most of the dulcerías will carry it. It's my favorite traditional dessert. The fruit flavors are the best, especially mango, guava and tamarind. And put a thin slice of cheese on top of a small cube of ate and it is PURE ECSTASY!

Room temp is fine, but I wouldn't warm it since it'd probably melt.

You can probably find some at the EcoTianguis Zanca this morning in front of the Vicente Guerrero primary school.
