Before I do hours of research and make a bad decision. If you have flown or taken the bus from Oaxaca to Zihuatanejo, can I get your thoughts about time and cost involved. And the derangement factor. Is it doable without a big investment of time and cost. And stress. Thanks.

It's in the Message Board Archives, as are numerous other reports on travel between Zihuatanejo and Oaxaca. Not sure why I save them if no one's going to read them.

I did check, Rob. I only went back a year since I am looking for relatively current information. I gathered that bus connections are a bit tenuous but I thought perhaps something might have changed. I saw references to people flying between with a layover in Mexico City but nothing specific about times or airlines. And nothing real recent.

If you had a good search prompt, maybe you could let me know. I'm happy to go through previous notes.

Have you flown recently? If so, what airline did you use and do you know which domestic Mexican airlines make the connection?

We flew a few years ago- the brief stop in Mex was fine. We flew on Mexicana, which no longer exists. It was a really good service. Now you can buy 1 ticket with Aeromexico, which of course includes the stop in Mex. You can also buy 2 tickets with Interjet (which might be cheaper)- ticket to either Mex or Toluca (very near Mexico city); 1 ticket from there to Oaxaca. Hope this helps you. I have been watching for a good fare from here in Zihua to Oaxaca for a little over a year, and haven't found a good price (for us) yet. We are considering driving- just haven't had the time lately. It's on our list!

Thank you, Linda. I also miss Mexicana.

We would probably get a multi-stop ticket that flies us into Oaxaca and out of Zihuatanejo with a separate flight or bus arrangement from Oaxaca to Zihuatanejo.

We have done this kind of itinerary before for other trips and it works pretty well. I'll check Interjet..

We have taken the bus from Lazaro Cardenas to Guerrero and then joined family to drive from Acapulco to Oaxaca (beaches). It's a long drive on 2 lane highways with sometimes lots of traffic. I would recommend taking the bus all the way rather than driving.

Do you want to stay in one place or travel around?

We made the trip by air to Oaxaca last November. Left Zihua in the early afternoon on AeroMexico to Mexico City, had a layover of maybe a couple hours, then arrived in Oaxaca in the early evening. The bus routes were lengthy and our time was short so we opted to fly. It was about $750 USD roundtrip for two people. Oaxaca and the surrounding area were absolutely stellar!

I'm not Sunlight, but I highly recommend Casa Colonial, a charming and secure B&B within easy walking distance to the Zocalo.

We stayed at La Betulia B&B and liked it very much. The owners were helpful and answered several of my questions prior to arrival by email the same day I sent them. The breakfasts were yummy with a communal atmosphere, the place was recently renovated, charming and the place is within easy walking distance to El Centro. www.labetulia.com/

We flew 2 years ago. The time investment was 5 hours airport to airport and the cost was $142 each. We had spent many hours on the bus that year with one trip being 9+hrs to go about 450kms so we were happy to pay the airfare.

Thanks. I presume the fare you quote is a one way, which is probably what we would do. What airline did you use?
