Oaxaca

Unfortunately you will need to change planes in DF or Toluca to go to/from.

I strongly recommend at least one visit to Oaxaca. There are many small comfortable and clean hotels near the zocalo. The food is excellent!!!!

Speaking of the zocalo, some teachers and followers of whatever movement have set up a tent city which impacts the views across the square and gretaly impacts the legitimate businesses there.

El Rey de Matalan Anejo, in my opinion is the absolute best mezcal in the area. It has a good old stony buzz affect to it.
