Easter 2016

I would like to visit Zihua during March in 2016 and I see that Easter falls during that month. What weeks would it be best to avoid, to avoid the crowds? thanks

Easter will fall on March 27 in 2016, so IMO, and given your stated wish to desire avoiding the crowds, you should plan to be outta ZIH by March 19, 2016. Hence, avoid the weeks of March 20-26, and March 27-April2.

I am going to differ a little. You really need to be out before March 24th. Up until that date it will just look like a regular Mexican holiday weekend.

Also I can say this last Easter was the LEAST amount of people I have seen in Ixtapa maybe EVER. No stages No loud thumping noises until???? So come enjoy the CLEAN, unpolluted, uncrowded beach during all of Easter.

Maybe Ixtapa, Dave, but Zihua was buzzing. Everywhere was full up. AND I LOVED IT.

Come on down and enjoy Mexico and all she has to offer.

Will Easter 2016 be as quiet?

We agree with midalake.....we felt there were fewer National tourists in Zihua this Easter period. La Ropa wasn't nearly as crowded as we've seen it in previous years. We were at Paty's most days. In the restaurant and on the beach out front, it looked like any other regular Sunday crowd. From Paty's down to the rocks in front of Casa Que Canta, there was hardly anyone. Sure, there were hordes of people out front of Rossy's, the craft market beside Villa Mexicana, and west of La Perla, but other than those locations, La Ropa was fairly quiet. The pedestrian walkways in the evenings didn't seem nearly as crowded - even La Cancha was relatively quiet. We could actually eat at Daniel's without being driven away by thumping music. At our apartment in Centro, after 11 pm, it was as quiet as a church.....and that's a first. It would be nice to think that the municipal noise control people were just doing their jobs, but that's doubtful. Just not as many visitors, in our opinion.

Lots of different perspectives I guess. We had the same or more tour buses on our street behind La Perla. I also thought the streets in centro were just as crowded as always, and Comercial Mexicana was extremely crowded when I had to go. I did a huge grocery shopping just before the holiday, as usual, so I wouldn't have to go often during the busy time.

Did you notice all of us frequent different areas of Zihua also. Down on my end of the Paseo you could hardly find a seat at the restaurants. And Las Gatas.....more people were there than I had ever seen before and more according to the tickets sold for there. (I did not even have a chair at Las Gatas much less a lounge or beach chair.)

And parking...for your car...forget about it.

I think Carol that you just nailed it...My sources told me this year was a very good one in terms of national tourists for Easter in Zihua and Ixtapa if you just look at the amount of tourists. The problem for Zihua is the type of national tourists you get. Less of them are actually spending time in restaurants and hotels and spending oney in the community and even those that do spend very little. In Ixtapa, it's a different picture and it is a more affluent national clientele that stay there during Easter holidays. So depending on where you stay, you may not notice a huge difference and it may not look like that busy compare to other times of the year. But the amount of buses don't lie and the passenger loads at the airport also show how busy it was.

I often do a sunset stroll on La Ropa with my neighbour, and we did just that several times during the holiday. On more than a couple of occasions we didn't go all the way down the beach. It was just too crowded right up to the water's edge, and too many little soccer games happening for us to have a relaxing stroll. We had no problem at all with altering our usual walk! We always enjoy seeing the families enjoying the beach, and we always marvel at how late the national folks stay on the beach- well past sunset! Tourists tend to head off the beaches between 3-5pm. National holiday is just another of the many faces of Zihua for us to experience and enjoy.

Not so quiet

According to Sefotur in both Zihuatanejo and Ixtapa the hotels were near 100% full during part of Semana Santa. Then there's the oferta extrahotelera that includes the hundreds of cheap lodgings in the ecological disaster known as Casas Geo (the development of 6,000 units in the formerly jungled wetlands from La Puerta de Ixtapa all the way to the Ixtapa turnoff by Pemex). Many of its units remain empty most of the year except during Navidad & Semana Santa.

Not Likely
