La Fumigación

Last night they sprayed along the La Noria/Almacen road and in La Noria. They sprayed here in La Noria again this morning. Yay!

Yes, the public clamor apparently became too much. But of course FIRST they had to have a big ceremony at city hall so the políticos could get their pictures taken doing their jobs as if it were a huge favor they were doing us and we should shower them with praise for it.

Even though this new virus Chikungunya has been present in the region since late last year, this is the FIRST TIME all year that the "responsible authorities" have actually sprayed in the neighborhoods and downtown. Unfortunately it seems they are still in denial regarding its presence here since local news is reporting that only 10 cases have been confirmed locally, which I know is a bunch of crap. The problem is most folks don't bother wasting their time going to public clinics because they have no doctors or medicines yet still make you wait hours if not days just to be attended, and most locals can't afford a private doctor so it continues being underreported. But we all seem to know over a dozen people who have been affected this year, including several deaths, so I distrust the "official" count. Unfortunately, to most folks it appears that the only thing the "responsible authorities" seem to care about besides their bank account is their image.
