I couldn't find much about tennis in the archives. Has anyone been able to use the courts at the Viceroy? If so, how did you line it up and how much did they charge?
If not the Viceroy, where's a good place in Ixtapa, and how do I make arrangements?

You may need a reservation at the golf course (Fonatur)on a Saturday morning during high season, but otherwise just show up. If you are a single and looking for a game and are a strong 3.5 or 4.0, the regulars will welcome you into the group for singles or doubs. They start around 7:00am and play most every day (at least during high season). If you are a weaker player, try the Hotel Presidente group. $100 pesos per player at the golf course (nicer cts) (three month membership is a good deal if you are there that long and play a lot) or $100 for the ct for an hr at the Presidente. If you prefer to hit with the pro, both places have a pro on staff and both charge the same (don't remember how much, but not expensive). Tennis balls, when you can find them at Commercial are expensive, so consider bringing down a few cans (or if you play as much as I do, a case).

Thanks, Gene -- that helps a lot. Sounds like you may stay in Ixtapa when you're down. Ever tried getting onto the Viceroy courts in Zihua?

No, I have never tried. Some of the higher end hotels in Ixtapa do not allow non guests to play on their cts. I imagine the Viceroy is the same. All the serious tennis is played in Ixtapa and that is where all the locals play.
I play tennis or am on a bike every day so I choose to live in Ixtapa. Zihu is just a hop, skip and jump away when I choose to spend time there, which I often do.

Thanks for the info. I am responding to your archived response to Jeff. Not sure I understood the cost of the 3 month tennis membership?

That's encouraging, Donna. How did you manage that?

I asked Andy Smith, the tennis pro at the Viceroy. You can just call the front desk to set it up.
