I avoid all the major holidays, but have some friends who asked about coming down for New Years...is it a madhouse?
They have Intrawest time share, but I imagine La Ropa's packed?

I doubt there's a functioning vacation resort area in the world that isn't busy over the New Year's holiday. Playa La Ropa sure beats the heck out of Las Vegas or Florida!

2 years ago we came down for New Years and celebrate Kathie's birthday on Jan 5- every since we had been coming down she had wanted to celebrate both.
We were at Pacifica for New Years and had dinner and watched the fire works at El Faro's- the view was awesome with the burst right in front of you looking over the beach and water. 1 time is enough, Pacifica it seamed had over 100% occupancy and ran out of food items during the week waiting for resupply for the kitchens. We could not wait to get to the Grand for piece and quiet. We had heard it would be crowed but not that crowed.
Last New Years in Zihua was great. Spent the evening at Daniel's on the beach in downtown and the fireworks were great. Good food ,cool breeze and moonlight over the Bay made a beautiful night. The music of Jimi Mamou was icing on the cake.

Most of our trips to Zih have been around New Year's Eve with some other high season trips to judge relative conditions .
The pictures I've seen from Semana Santa are much worse .
There is an interesting dynamic that we have noticed with La Ropa when the road is in good condition in that the big tour buses mostly park around the southern end of La Ropa . The south end and middle area take on more people but the north end stays about normal . My theory is that the north end beach is used mostly by Zihua locals and some of them will get to work more in that busier time and so get less beach time with the family .
Last year's road condition meant less crowds in general but the north remained equally quiet to my eye .
We sat a few times at the Catalina in the shade with plenty of seats unused . We normally sit at the Rossy which does get the big crowd boost and we just embrace that and meet some new friends .
Restaurants in town are more crowded and we just wing it in terms of planning and reservations and still do alright .
Tell them to go .

Please be happy always
