Trip report from honeymooning first-timers!
Well we are officially hooked! What a beautiful place! We were down July 19-26 and stayed at Sunscape in Ixtapa. We inherited my husband's mother's timeshare, and used the exchange. We had read very mixed reviews for the place, but we had nothing but a great experience there. Lots of great activities. Food was great. People were so friendly! We had a long day of travel on the way there and back, being low season and no direct flights from MSP, but it was totally worth it! Monday we lazed about at the resort to recover from the long previous day. Tuesday we ventured about town to get the lay of the land and set up a fishing trip. And, we walked up the beach to experience the massages we heard about on this board. Wonderful! Tuesday evening we went on the Picante sunset cruise that was truly magical! So glad we set that up even before leaving home! Wednesday was another lazy day (do you sense a theme?). Thursday we were up early to go fishing with Armando on the Barracuda. Great day!!! We each caught a yellow-fin! We saw a porpoise when we were out of the bay. And he brought us in to Las Gatas Beach to have some of the fish filleted and cooked for us, and made into ceviche. So delicious. We also swam and snorkeled a bit while we were there. On our way back to Ixtapa, we stopped at a local shop to drop off a donation of eyeglasses that Holly from this board sent our way. We slept like babies that night! Up early, again, on Friday for surf lessons through Catcha l'ola! Lot's of work (and a bunch of bruises) but we caught a few waves and had a blast! Leo and his crew were great teachers! We ventured into town Friday night for dinner, and ate at a local restaurant-the Lobster House? Fantastic food and nice cold beers! Slept well again, but woke up very sore on Saturday! Saturday was our last full day, so we made it our last lazy day. We did walk up the beach one more time for massages though. Out the door mid morning on Sunday with sad faces, but we know we will be back someday! Thanks for all the info and suggestions from everyone on this board! Jo
Next time you travel to the area, check out Barra de Potosi - a little fishing village 15 minutes south of the airport (ZIH). It is so much more rewarding than "Isrichxtapa".
