Once the summer vacation period ends in a couple of weeks the tower part of the Hotel El Presidente is planned to be closed in order to provide maintenance and upgrades as well as structural repairs from last year's Good Friday quake. Around November the name of the hotel is scheduled to change from Hotel El Presidente to Holiday Inn, so get ready for that if you're a regular visitor there. I've already heard from some folks who've had difficulty making reservations.
Sure had some good times in their outdoor bar area back in the 90's with my sweetie dancing to live music.

Reminds me of our first ever visit to Ixtapa/Z in '92. We stayed at El Presidente, not in the tower but there were bungalows very near the beach. One morning we watched several young women in swimwear roller skating around the pool area, being followed around by a film crew. The next evening we joined a good sized group of local teen girls as they observed a crew shooting a musical performance at a hotel just to the north along the beach. Anyone recognize the group performing or know the film? https://vimeo.com/54508316

Ah yes, the good O days. El Presidente used to be our go to place for burger back then. That was before things went AI and you could come in off the beach or street and sit at the restaurant out near the beach.

The movie was called ¿Dónde Quedó La Bolita? A comedy about a musical group having a rough time on vacation and a cute little pooch named Bolita, it was filmed mostly in Ixtapa-Zihuatanejo. The musical group was called Garibaldi.
You can watch the entire movie here. Grab some popcorn, hit the "full screen" button and turn it up.

I was one of scores of local extras in that movie; I show up in the newly constructed Marina Ixtapa Lighthouse area with a group of "special needs" people

It is enjoyable to see it now... I was working at the Front Desk during the shooting of the movie... I remember it really well. I see some people I know...

Our first visit was in '87 and we stayed at Presidente. I recall one day they did a photo shoot at the pool. We suspected a promo spread for Ixtapa. We have good memories of Presidente. But we visited Zihuatanejo and never went back to Ixtapa. I wonder if we could even find Presidente now with all the changes.

Then you may remember our good friend Juan Manual, the bellboy, Erendira at the front desk, Cleofus, Jesus at the pool bar, Carmen in the lobby bar?
