Diagram of the proposed pier

This is the plan that Fonatur Operadora Portuaria SA de CV submitted to the Secretaría de Comunicaciones y Transportes (SCT) along with their application to get the concession of the coastline including Bahía de Zihuatanejo and Barra de Potosí. Then they had the audacity last week to tell the inhabitants at La Barra who had seen this diagram that "well, we just submitted it to get the concession but we really have no intention at all of building a pier in Barra de Potosí". A vain and ingenuous attempt by Fonatur to convince locals they lied to the SCT but weren't lying to locals.

It looks to me as if the area they are claiming includes everything up to the road to Los Achotes. I would be really worried if I held any of that beachside land.

Unless I'm missing something, the "Operations Dock" out in the middle of everyone's view of the Pacific would be 1700 feet in diameter -- that's around 12 city blocks in area! (in addition to the pier)

Huge, yes. Ugly too I'm sure. And definitely wrong for Barra de Potosi.

But yes, I think that you are off a bit on your math.

A typical residential block in Minneapolis measures 660 feet from north to south and 330 feet from east to west. These measurements are from the center of one street to the center of the next. Thus, there are eight north-south blocks or 16 east-west blocks to the mile.

My apologies to you sir when I questioned your math. I was reading your 12 city blocks as being that the length of 12 city blocks is the approximate diameter of the proposed platform. I'm now assuming you were equating that the area is about the same. While I haven't done the calculation of the area of the circle vs the area of city blocks, now I'm guessing that you may be pretty close!

Looks like this would change the natural in and out flow of the Barra lagoon. What a disaster it would be!

How convenient! It appears the pier will protrude out from government land---the school at La Barra.

Whole bunch of people gonna get very, very rich! And others will get a pittance for their village homes/lots.

And how far over and down Valentin will it reach. Note the canal access to the pier (lots of dredging coming down the pike.

And no longer will Mother Nature open/close the lagoon---it will be deepened and dredged to have a wonderful shorline with waterfront homes.

Even that "cheap" land across the beach road will become very valuable.
