Never question the artist. No matter where you are people have different opinions on an artists conceptions. Just be thankful you live where they are free to express it. I like what I see so far. Where exactly is the new mural?

It's on the wall that used to be the backdrop for the small amphitheater that was removed for one of the endless remodelings public servants like to waste our money on. On the east side of the main waterfront plaza (zócalo).

Judging from your defensive reaction, I suspect that "everyone you've spoken with" probably hesitates to disagree with you. But thanks for the promotion.
Two works of art I really enjoyed during my last visit were the graffiti on the wall in the canal and the wings on the back wall of the museum. Regrettably, both have been defaced by local knuckle draggers who don't know any better.

New Mural in Z Zócalo (reply)

Hola
I also have zero artistic ability in me, but I appreciate those that do. I haven't seen the mural first hand, but the photo looks pretty damn good. I will see the finished version when I get there in October. I do know where the Jesus statue is and I have no desire to swim out there and see it or the anchor. Would rather stay closer to shore (near the beer).
Don't know why the mural artist would include it in his/her art. Must mean something to him/her. Might even take a picture of the mural when I see it.

As art goes, pretty mediocre.

I strongly disagree. I have zero artistic ability so doing something like that is beyond my grasp. Maybe that's why I think it's awesome. Anyhow, thumbs up from me.

You do realize it isn't finished, right? Everyone I've spoken to here loves it, though admittedly I haven't asked any foreign art snobs from Vienna for their opinions yet.

New Mural in Z Zócalo

A couple of weeks ago work began on this mural in Zihuatanejo's main plaza on the waterfront. A nice tribute to Tamakún, though I take issue with the submerged statue of Jesus being one of our attractions, especially because most Zihuatanejo visitors don't even know it exists. I see it instead as a monument to the corruption of former mayor Silvano Blanco who used it as an excuse to use public funds to take a trip to the Vatican with his family and entourage to allegedly get a miniature of this statue "blessed" by the Pope. So much for the Separation of Church and State.
