Thanks Curbarn. I am always learning something on this board. I really appreciate a discussion where there appears to be mutual respect. All the best. On a non-economic note, I wonder if temperature differential between Zihua and a person's residence has a positive correlation. I have a feeling that those curves would directly overlie each other. Oh my company is doing just fine and I'm in the dreaded oil industry.If United States coughs, Canada gets a cold. Just my opinion, but I think some of Canada's good times are because of the strong economic environment in the US. I notice the DOW is well over 26,000 today. I also think that per capita Canadians travel more in the winter. Heck, even with global warming it was colder than 30 below for all of the Christmas holidays. Right or wrong, I still wish I was in sunny Zihua. Have a great day everyone.

I was not comparing the two economies, the economy is better in Canada than it was previously, as later stated. The commentor stated reasons why there was increased tourism, they mentioned that there were fewer Americans, and there were more Canadians than previous.

I know understanding markets are hard, but really, if you aren’t making money, you aren’t paying attention. How do you think so many Canadians are here. The Canadian economy is doing fine, we’ve had to recent rate hikes to slow it down. The dollar is a petro currency it flows with the the oil price. It has little impact in our donestic economy.

The economy better in Canada? You must be retired. Just look at the DOW and the TSX and how the gap between the two is getting larger. Look at our 80 cent dollar. Not at all complaining, just saying. Wish I was in Zih to win or lose this discussion because holy crap it has been pretty cold up here north of the 49th.

I wonder. I recently sent the following e-mail to the Canadian Business News Network:
"In the belief that There Are No Stupid Questions - up until the 2007/8 stock market crash and recession, the average difference between the TSX and the DOW was 2500 points. Now, the difference is 9500 points. On a typical day, if the DOW is up 150 points, the TSX will be up 25 points. If the DOW is down 50 points, the TSX will be down 90 points. Is this a reflection of the relative success of these two economies in recovering from the recession?"

I don't know if BNN ever replied. Maybe they thought it was a REALLY stupid question?

Meh.the numbers could also have to do with demographics as we near the end of the baby boom and live longer, the economy is better in Canada, Blaming the president is laughable, who listens to him anyways. I at say not so much Trump but the sensational killings in the press. My son is in the FBI and has been against us for coming to Mexico for years. At Pacifica there have been cancellations because of the news coming out of the area. My son is in the FBI in Chicago and has been against us coming down- he cannot travel down. The news did not report the killing was over a prostitute and her handler. Like before, there were beheading of cops- in most cases they were dirty cops on the pay roll of 1 cartel and killed by another (that was not reported).

I,ve been coming for the 6 mos. of winter every year for 12 years. I spend my time at Playa La Madera. I see fewer and fewer Americans there..most now foreigners are Canadians! I blame American sensational reporting on violence in Mexico and Trump,s racism in general and his hatred for Mexico in particular for the decline of Americans coming here. Used to be a lot of Americans. So sad! "Impeach Trump..he,a not MY president!"

When we flew on the 6th on the United direct flight from Chicago, there were only a couple of vacant seats. We stay at Villa Mercedes before coming to the Grand. He only has 8 rooms and they were occupied- was turning people a way looking for a room. When you stay there, you have to book for next year while there because of all of his returning guest who have been coming for years. Here at the Grand, the 2 original buildings are fully occupied this week- really reflects at the 1 pool.

After the killer storms that ravaged the Cuba's, dominican republic, Puerto Rico etc one would think that all those travellers would be looking elsewhere to vacation as many resorts in those countries are still in repair mode.

My friends in St. Croix say they have the island up and running and they say they are quite ready for visitors. This isn't their first dance. Cuba also is quite ready for tourists and its government is already working on a long range plan to deal with rising seas due to global warming. Puerto Rico is still working to restore power but its resorts are certainly ready to receive tourists, especially on the southern coast. There is certainly no reason to avoid traveling to any of the Caribbean islands. They are beautiful jewels populated by mostly wonderful hard-working people, many who depend on tourism to earn their living.

This is Salt River and Cape of the Arrows aka Columbus Landing on the north shore of St. Croix where Cristobol Colón tried to make landfall on his second voyage to the Caribbean but was repelled by the Ay Ay natives who had heard of his barbarism on other islands during his previous visit. Their peaceful idyllic existence wouldn't last much longer thanks to genocidal European colonists.

Rob, you are correct...Tourism numbers, especially in Mexico, are difficult to accurately gauge and depending on where you get your numbers, it will vary greatly. But there are a few key indicators to give you an idea of a truer picture and airline loads are your best bet as hotels often lies as for their true occupancy rate but if you keep track of how many passengers came in and how many flights per week are in operation, you will get a good idea of what is going on as the amount of people driving in is minimal aside the nationals.

Canadian numbers will likely be higher this year again. WestJet numbers are solid and 1 more flight a week has been added from the East Coast of Canada. Some changes are coming in the airline industry in Canada and I can only hope it will make it easier for some of us to fly to Zihua. For flyers from the USA, it appears it is get use to longer flights as less and less direct flights are available. It will hurt the business, especially for people looking at coming just a week or so. And of course the politics are not helping.

3 more weeks and I am flying in! Can't wait to be there!

I just got back from Zihua as I have for the last twenty years since we have family there and locals are concerned more so because of the extorsion that is happening and the non action being taken by the local mayor who is part of the problem
