Government sez... (reply)

More to put an end to rumors and outright BAD reporting by some news agencies than to repeat the news that can be found on my NEWS page...

A little before 9:00 a.m. this Thursday morning, a 76-year-old man swimming at Playa Quieta, guest of a nearby hotel, was bitten by a shark. The man died on the beach before paramedics could arrive. A woman swimmer was also bitten and was hospitalized. Beaches were closed along the entire littoral of Zihuatanejo de Azueta from Playa Buena Vista to Barra de Potosí after the incident.

It was erroneously reported by Zihuatanejo's mayor and numerous "news" agencies that the attack was by a cocodrilo.

The municipal government says its tests conclude the man was bitten by a crocodile. They say nothing about the obvious shark bites on the leg of the woman, nor do they address the accounts of eyewitnesses, locals and visitors, who also say they saw a shark. I'll reserve my skepticism of the government for apparently finding what it wanted to.

Thank you for correcting the misinformation. I was there. My sister and I saw the fin and the bloom of blood in the water. It was a shark.
