6:30 a.m. Saturday morning and Zihuatanejo was awakened by "music" booming at full volume from the Muelle Municipal with no consideration at all for residents or visitors on vacation who don't care about the massacre fishing tournament (you'll notice I haven't promoted it). This type of utter disdain for the people by allowing thunderous music blaring before the sun even rises has been typical of the administration of Jorge Sánchez Allec. Complaints to the ayuntamiento fall on deaf ears, and the blaring music continued throughout the day and well past when the last fishing boat returned. #Pobre Pueblo #MerecemosMejor

When we walked to the pier this evening we were able to pass, and the music was fun to dance to, but still so loud as to be harmful to the eardrums. The same municipal administration that bans beachgoers at some beaches from playing loud music (while permitting beachfront restaurants to play loud music) is the biggest offender of all for playing music too loud.

As if that weren't insulting enough, when my saint of a wife Lupita decided to go take her afternoon swim, here comes the Marina on a jet ski and a boat (at the behest of municipal authorities) who told her to get out of the water because a small cocodrilo was spotted near the pier. My wife was born under a wave on the downtown beach where her umbilical cord is buried. She used to dive with the renowned Oliverio. She knows these waters as well as or better than almost anyone, certainly better than the people scaring swimmers out of the water because of the small cocodrilo that lives either in La Boquita canal or the estero at La Ropa and that swims regularly to Las Salinas lagoon to eat. While it's certainly a shame and a tragedy what happened at Playa Quieta the other day, the response by the local government has simply been an embarrassment at best, and their simulation of a response is scaring at least as many tourists as the incident itself if not more.

Hurry and catch the Desfile Navideño tonight. It should be starting now but will continue for a couple of hours. Lots of people are out enjoying the food and the party atmosphere. We'll be watching from our privileged perch.
