I'm sorry but I have to ask: Were they removed because they were perceived to be a threat to the tourists? Or because a trash-filled, cement-lined canal wasn't a proper home for them?

Since they'd been living in the canal for many years and it kept them safe from everyone except politicians, I have to guess their reason was to simulate "doing something about the crocodile problem" after they publicly claimed the gentleman who was attacked at Playa Quieta was attacked by a crocodile, causing quite a crocodile hysteria among potential visitors in the social media and national news, when in reality he was attacked by a shark, same as the woman who was bitten on the leg but survived. They must figure they're committed to the lie and they need to do something. Because the small crocs posed no threat to anyone. Never attacked anyone or their Fifi. They had their routine of hiding out in the drainage tubes, especially the one connected to what's left of what used to be a large mangrove estuary, an ideal and safe place for them. There were usually plenty of fish in the shallow water at the mouth of the canal to keep them fed along with an occasional bird, though every now and then they'd sit out in the sun in the sand at the mouth of the canal, and sometimes take a swim to explore, such as to the Las Salinas lagoon past the pier where there are more fish and birds for them to eat. And during the peak holiday season while the croc hysteria was peaking one apparently was spotted swimming near the pier, and in their typical overreaction, the city ordered the Marina to clear everyone out of the water at the downtown beach. So that left them looking stupid, so I guess it just became an act of revenge for them after that, because this municipal government doesn't like being made to look bad, even when they do it to themselves.

I wasn't going to mention anything because I didn't want to be a snitch and alert the so-called authorities about its existence, but today they came anyway to the La Boquita canal again and traumatized and trapped the other extremely small cocodrilo that was still living there. Whatever amount of respect I may have had for the current municipal government just vaporized. The two small crocs that have inhabited that canal for years are already probably in the stomachs of larger crocs who live fenced in and in cramped conditions. For years these little crocs provided better photo ops for visitors than the stupid painted letters and silly tourist props placed by our city government that only mar the view of our beautiful bay.

Got cool again last night, and it lasted fairly late into the morning. Then it warmed up just right and made for a nice sunny day. This weather is absolutely perfect!

While there are still many visitors around, Zihuatanejo is noticeably less crowded, and as a merchant family we've noticed an abrupt drop in sales. We also can't help but notice more people from Canada and the USA in town. Usually there's a bit of a lull in between nationals and foreigners after the holiday season, but the foreigners seem to be showing up early.
