Recently there was some discussion about dengue here in Zihuatanejo, and so I just wanted to report that the local and state authorities confirmed what I said. Though there were 350 possible cases of dengue in Zihuatanejo for the entire year of 2023, only 50 cases were actually confirmed. Acapulco has a problem with dengue. Zihuatanejo doesn't.

So little rain fell this past season on Zihuatanejo that almost a third of the maize planted in Zihuatanejo couldn't be harvested. Bad news for a lot of farmers and rural families that depend on corn and the crops they plant with them, usually beans and squash.
