FWIW there was a letter in our rooms on Thursday and a smaller letter handed to us on the beach. Berenice relented late last night. Until she did we were to leave the beach around 10 and could return after 2. There was no misunderstanding.. The music was OK and thankfully not over amplified. This is a criticism of Catalina management, not guitar fest.

FWIW I was there today and there were lots of guests on the beach lounge chairs who were not ticket holders, and there was room for more. They even got a free concert. I suspect this was a misunderstanding or a poorly written communication about the small part of the beach bar that was being used for the event. And maybe a poor response by the hotel when the guest asked about it. Hardly a reflection on guitarfest as an event or organization.

As reported to me by a neighbor/friend, during the pier event for Sailfest, the public restrooms were available for use with no charge.

Last night he was required to pay for their use. When he asked he was told that the Presidente did not approve of parts of GuitarFest.

OK, so where does the money go? They raise a lot of it, like Sailfest, but Sailfest puts basically all of the money raised back into the community. Where does the Guitar Fest money go? It is all volunteers, and donated lodging for the artists, right?

Just had a brief chat with Heidi Nygard the Directir of Guitar Fest.
Unlike Sailfest which apparently has several generous donors, Guitar Fest is a self-sustaining entity that pays for transportation and accommodations for the performers as well as all the other expenses of putting on a festival.
If there is money left over it goes to support musical programs of various kinds in Zihua, including providing instruments for instruction.

Yeah it was 7 pesos and it was far enough away that if you held it in for long you might wish you hadn’t.
Always pisses me off!
As far as where the money goes I have heard for ‘music programs’.
But someone can answer that much better than I.
Perhaps Heidi Nygard, the Director.
By the way is the Presidente the Mayor?
Or someone else?

Let's think about "the Catalina running its guests off the beach" for a moment. How many guests are complaining they're being run off the beach? As far as I can tell, one guest posted that he's being forced, FORCED! to spend 3 hours (11-2) away from the Catalina lounge chairs over the course of a 17 day vacation. I mean, they are AWESOME lounge chairs and everything, but geez.

The idea that a foreigner cannot bear to be even slightly inconvenienced by virtue of the money he's spending seems pretty "elitist" to me.

Now now. Just because you don't know of anyone else inconvenienced by not having access to their hotel's beach doesn't mean no one else feels the same way. As someone who's lived most of my life in tourist resorts, I know a complaint worth paying attention to when I see it. So please don't put this on Tim.

Contrary to what we were told this morning, the GuitarFest is once again unintentionally creating animosity and an air of elitism by blocking the entrance to the pier and making mostly Mexican tourists and locals walk the smelly dirty dark broken and frankly dangerous walkway behind the building of the Capitanía del Puerto while mostly wealthy-looking foreigners have their party at the pier's entrance. This is how animosity is created. I understand it is the decision of the municipal government. But event organizers need to realize the current municipal government makes a lot of very poor decisions, and they should insist to simply do the right thing and allow a path to and from the pier at the entrance for people not attending the event. Unless they don't mind generating animosity, but I don't believe that.

Between the meet-n-greet screwup at the Catalina running its guests off the beach and blocking the pier entrance, that's already 2 strikes against the public image of the GuitarFest, and it has barely gotten under way. Oops.

Grab your long johns 'cause it's supposed to get way down to 17°C tonight and 16°C the following night. Brrrrr! Gonna have to light a FIRE! Or someone else's.

Oops.

There've been some waves in Zihuatanejo Bay lately. Not too big. Maybe a meter high at the most, but they sure make for wonderful sleeping sounds.

A luxurious private beachfront compound in Troncones featuring a 3-bedroom villa with a private pool, three 1-bedroom MiniVillas, and two side-by-side 2-story 1-bedroom bungalows that share a pool. Truly an oasis in paradise!
