The mar de fondo has been quite active and hitting the coast with some sizeable waves lately. This Sunday morning while 3 fishermen in a panga were working near the downtown beach a wave caught them not paying attention, flooding their boat and knocking it almost all the way over, so far that things and people fell out. They tried to use the top of a cooler to paddle with since they didn't have any oars. Waves kept coming at them so two of the three guys jumped into the water to push the boat past the breakers by swimming. It took them a while but they managed to do it. The oddest thing was that two nearby pangas who were also fishing did absolutely nothing to help the panga in distress. I've never seen anything like that before. So maybe the fishermen on the panga that got swamped weren't very popular with the other fishermen. I was standing and watching with a couple of other fishermen, and no one knew who any of the fishermen in any of the pangas were, but we all thought the same thing. How very odd. Locals would normally always help each other here.

The Cancha Municipal was packed tonight. Restaurants were full along the waterfront, but A DAMN BUMMER for all the business on the downtown pedestrian streets who have to close so the mayor can pour his own cement where it isn't needed doing more unsolicited "remodeling" apparently just to make himself even MORE money on self-awarded no-bid public contracts, never mind that it's our peak season when our tourists spend the most money especially in the downtown restaurants. No compensation for the businesses currently losing revenue while the mayor generates his own. Bunch of corruption, if you ask me.

Sunday morning was a bit nipper, but nothing some locally grown hot coffee couldn't fix.

Una ola grande del mar de fondo hundió por sorpresa una panga con tres pescadores abordo en el mismo momento que lanzaron su atarraya cerca de la orilla, y dos de ellos tuvieron que empujar la panga nadando para pasar las olas ya que no tuvieron remos, y lo más sorprendente fue que ninguna otra panga les ofreció ayuda. Seguramente hay más historia aquí por contar.
