Update on Tijuana to Zihuatanejo direct flights (reply)

Drove down the mountain from Oaxaca to Huatulco several times in an RV. Also did the Puerto Escondido and Puerto Angel downhill. All really spectacular. Start early, go slow, take loads of photos!!!!!

The views are spectacular, indeed. Glad to hear you enjoyed the ride. Obviously, you didn't have a young, half-crazed driver who wasn't afraid of dying. A year later, I learned that on one of his monthly trips to and from Huatulco and Oaxaca City he was added as one more fatality statistic for that journey. No doubt there is yet another roadside memorial altar to be admired. You do see one about every kilometer or so.

Update on Tijuana to Zihuatanejo direct flights (reply)

Ouch. Rumor is that the Oaxaca to Huatulco bus ride, is, to use the lexicon of the surfers down there, gnarly.

Terrifying is the word I would use. I was sure we were gonna' die. Those 2,000 foot cliffs right up against the side of the road! They wouldn't find your bodies for months.

Better to fly into Puerto Escondido. Hey! I didn't check if there were still direct flights to Puerto Escondido. Next post. UPDATE: Nope! No more direct flights to Puerto Escondido. This is getting serious. So glad that Zihua is still direct.

Update on Tijuana to Zihuatanejo direct flights

Update on Tijuana to Zihuatanejo direct flights:

Volaris changed the Tijuana to Zihuatanejo direct flights recently. They used to leave at 3 am in the morning and arrive early in the morning. The plane would then refuel, load passengers, and immediately return to Tijuana.

The new flights leave just after 7 am from Tijuana and arrive around 11 am with the plane then immediately returning to Tijuana. So you can now take in a few days in the San Diego / Tijuana region (For example, visit Mexico's wine growing region, Valle de Guadalupe) and then fly direct to Zihuatanejo and bypass Zihua's potential customs shakedown. Since you are flying on a domestic flight, you don't go through customs at the Zihua airport.

On a sad note, Volaris canceled the direct flights to Huatulco. Hopefully, they will resume them next tourist season.
