Buying Tequila in Tequila (reply)

Around 2000, I drove from Vancouver to Troncones via Tequila. I spent a couple of nights there. While shopping, I found shops that sold only “bulk” tequila. There were spigots on the wall with labels naming the tequila. I sampled several tequilas, including a Don Julio and these were the real thing. I bought 10-12 litres of various tequilas in new, white, one-litre bottles at remarkable prices. These shops were not “hidden”, they were on one of the main streets with signs.

I was in Tequila briefly around 2012 and I didn’t notice any such shops.

Does anyone know whether it is still possible to find such bargains in Tequila?

We've over-nighted in Tequila several times over the years, most recently in Dec/22. We've never seen the bulk dispensaries but have done the Jose Cuervo tour. The sugar-sweet aroma covering the whole town is wonderful. The place is jammed weekends with tours from Guadalajara and surrounding areas.

We do know that you can still do that with amazing Mezcals in Oaxaca. Sorry we can't help you with Tequila. Don't forget the amazing deals on fire opals too.
