We are finding that all the rays seem to be called manta rayas, even those they call rayas mariposas. Just like in English, common names vary.

Thank you, Talley Ho. I know that the little stinging guys are Sting Rays, but they are called mantarrayas in Mexico.

Haven't seen any STING rays in several months, which is very unusual, but we still shuffle when we walk in the water.

We daily see a lot of spotted eagle rays (rayas mariposas) and lately Pacific cow nose rays, the beautiful brown ones, and a few fairly small manta rays, all black on top, white underneath.

The ones that hurt people are the sting rays, and they are generally here year around.

Ive been hearing a lot of concern from visitors who are shocked with how the prices of rent and dining out have gone up. Last year the average price for a meal in a descent restaurant has gone up approx 100 pesos per serving. We all know inflation is world wide but not this high. Hope it doesnt scare visiters away

This is our 3rd time staying in Zihua, 4th time in the area but never in April, do the water temps usually dip around this time of year or does being at the tail end of an El Niño season have an effect at all?

This is by far the busiest we have ever seen the beaches but most restaurants (except for a few) seem relatively quiet. We have wondered if it has anything to do with the increase in prices. We were expecting an increase but not this dramatic, coupled with the Canadian dollar we are struggling to even eat out once a day let alone several. We haven’t eaten at any beachfront restaurants this visit either. Tonight we had Pad Thai and a curry, nothing to drink at all and cost us $60 cdn with a mediocre tip ????

Our breakfast at Loot, which we have loved in the past (and still obviously love the ambiance) was over $40cdn for 1 latte and 2 tofu breakfast burritos that were 70% lettuce.

Heading to Saladita Sunday and scared to see where the prices have gotten to there!

The peso exchange is brutal right now. We eat out less.

Bay water temp is between 22 and 23°C, about as cold as I've ever seen it get. Probably part of the reason for the presence of so much bioluminescence along our coast. Thursday the water in the bay had a brownish tint, but today it looked better. Cold water often precedes a Marea Roja, which affects our fishing and can affect some bathers.

Our weather continues absolutely picture-postcard-perfect, though it got pleasantly cool last night. Nothing a light sheet couldn't handle.

Much less tourism around. This week we have a different class of tourism than last week, but not enough of them. Sales are slow, and summer vacation period is a long way off.

Lupita and I love the Friday evening Danzón music at Plaza del Artista each Friday evening. Come enjoy and participate if you're so inclined.
