With each day our hillsides turn a little greener, a fresh green we call "verde tierno", and the air smells a little sweeter, richer with oxygen. This is our tropical version of the change of seasons. A favorite time of year that brings new life and hope, though not without concern for the possible storms to come.

The "Efecto Acapulco" continues to benefit Zihuatanejo as people who would normally take their vacations there, come here instead. Amazingly, many of our waterfront restaurants were quite busy this evening, full of locals and visitors with the purchasing power we need. A trend I hope continues.

Our bay and the ocean along our coast have been extremely calm these past few days, though a mar de fondo event is expected along our coast this coming Tuesday with waves from 6 to 8 feet every 20 to 22 seconds. A tropical wave is also expected early next week, and an area of disturbed weather along the coast of Oaxaca and Guerrero currently has a 30% of development of "cyclone formation" according to NOAA. So there may be more than just some waves to worry about. Keep an eye on our local weather.

A place I really like to recommend, like an oasis in paradise, is Casa Tucanes. A beautiful vacation lodging located on the edge of La Ropa's coconut grove surrounded by lush gardens, a short walking distance to the beach. They offer three 1- and 2-bedroom villas, two 2-bedroom bungalows and two simple guest rooms. They also have a pool, they're pet friendly and they're wonderful hosts.
