Though it was an incredibly beautiful day with extremely calm water and mostly sunny skies, this Sunday felt hot in downtown Zihuatanejo. And all the new cement only made it feel even hotter. A noticeable difference from just a few years ago. One place where you don't see people during most of the daytime is on the Paseo del Pescador where there is almost no shade since the last remodelación. A damn shame.

Hardly any visitors to be found in Zihuatanejo. All the families are now back at their homes getting their little angels ready for school tomorrow. A lot of businesses didn't even bother opening today, not just the ones that normally close on Sundays. A sign of the slow and difficult times ahead for the next few months. It's also typically a time for increased robberies and hold-ups, so stay alert and don't forget to lock doors.

Amazingly, this entire rainy season it still hasn't really rained hard except briefly less than a handful of times. Zihuatanejo's bay has remained quite swimmable, and even passed a recent water test on Aug. 15 with flying colors. But we shouldn't let our guard down. Rain is forecast for much of next week.
