The absence of tourism changes the local atmosphere quite a bit. The taxis, the curricanes and the wandering guías de turistas start getting more aggressive. Pity the poor tourists who must run the gauntlet wherever they go.

Now is a wonderful time of year to come enjoy discounted lodging rates. You'll have the beaches mostly to yourself. No fighting over lounge chairs. No waiting in lines at popular restaurants. You also can have the pick of just about any lodging, as most have this time of year open on their calendars. The hills and mountains are all a deep lush green. The lack of hard rains means the ocean water remains quite clean and clear, and the passing storms kick up a few waves to keep the surfers happy. It's heaven on earth!

Tuesday evening's rain cooled things down and made for a delicious night of sleeping. Sleeping under sheets was optional, depending on your fan's settings. Of course it never fails that the lone drunk shows up around 2 in the morning and starts singing or playing their boombox under our window. Usually a loud SHHHHHH! is enough to get them to move on.

The predicted storms never really showed up. Just a too-brief light rain, though I could see lightning from storms passing outside the bay. Rain remains in the forecast for the rest of the week. Keeping fingers crossed.

Truly one of the loveliest vacation lodgings at La Ropa in one of the most peaceful areas of our community is Villa Zanzibar, tucked away in the old original La Ropa community at the southern end of the beach a short easy walk uphill from the end of the beach.
