The danzón dancers are currently enjoying themselves in Plaza del Artista with their romantic music. Come join in and learn this style of dancing, a Zihuatanejo tradition.

I was just telling Lupita the other night that I don't understand why some fishermen go out of the bay to fish when there are thunderstorms in the vicinity, something they used not to do, and sure enough as if to underscore my comment, two fishermen were hit by lightning recently. Both are hospitalized, one in Mexico City. We certainly hope they recover. And hopefully it'll serve as a reminder to others who may not have learned this rule.

Now may not be the best time to visit Taxco. 10 members of their police force were recently arrested for the disappearance of several young men. One kidnap victim was released. The Guardia Nacional and state police are currently in charge of the police, but there will likely be some pushback from organized criminals, of whom their mayor is suspected of being a member. ¡Viva Guerrero Bronco! The more things change, the more they stay the same.

There has been increased presence by the military and Guardia Nacional in Zihuatanejo, especially along the waterfront in the evenings. I believe most locals are glad to see them, though I can understand why visitors may find them disconcerting.

Friday has been another day of incredibly good weather. It clouded up this evening, but so far no rain that I'm aware of. We didn't get much rain from the passing storms yesterday. I'm just guessing from experience that we're way below our average for this date.

Don't forget to come to the Eco-Tianguis Sanka this Saturday morning from 9 to 1:30, in front of the Vicente Guerrero school across the street from the waterfront museum.
