Thanks to you, I'm learning a little more Spanish every day. I was confused by the caption accompanying the beach photo:

"La salida del sol sobre la bahía de Zihuatanejo con el mar muy tranquilo."

My limited Spanish says "entrada" and "salida" mean "entrance" and "exit", respectively. So,"la salida del sol" must mean "the exiting of the sun" ....i.e.sunset.

But we've been to Zihua several times in mid-November, and never saw the sun setting over La Madera or La Ropa.

Sure enough, defying common sense, ( at least MY common sense), Google translates "la salida del sol" as "sunrise."

I'll have to remember that next time an airport sign directs us to "salida."

Salir, besides meaning "to leave", also translates as "to come out", "to go out" or "to get out". Depending on the context. And while la salida is the exit, la salida del sol is the sunrise: the coming out of the sun.

This Saturday in Zihuatanejo was a busy day with many visitors in town, and many local merchants enjoyed an uptick in sales. The ocean remained calm, still no sign of the predicted mar de fondo event, and the sky remained mostly clear. The downtown beach was full of people swimming, sunning, playing, relaxing and eating. It's good to see so many visitors here enjoying themselves.

The only negative was someone saw a crocodile taking refuge in Canal La Boquita and called Protección Civil who of course came and traumatized it by trapping it, teaching it that humans are a threat and thus making it more not less dangerous, before they took it away to release in another lagoon where it will likely get eaten by larger crocodiles, which is why the smaller ones seek refuge in Canal La Boquita in the first place. Humans do the stupidest things sometimes! Please DON'T call the Bomberos or Protección Civil if you see a crocodile, and just let it be. Remember that it's easy to live in harmony with our local crocodiles by simply observing 3 simple rules:

DON'T FEED THEM - Don't teach them that humans are a source of food.

DON'T HARASS THEM - Don't provoke an attack in self defense or teach them that humans are a threat.

RESPECT THEIR SPACE - Stay out of their way when they are entering their estuary from the ocean and vice versa, don't get near them during their season of breeding, nesting and raising their offspring (generally spring and early summer).

The local government says it has signs with these rules on them placed in areas where there are crocodiles, but there certainly isn't one on the downtown beach where there should be, as well as ALL local beaches. There should also be fines for violating these rules, as there are in Florida.

This Saturday evening right after sunset it started sprinkling, but it didn't seem like it was going to rain so everyone continued about their business. Musicians set up in Plaza del Artista and at restaurants on the beach, and the Torneo de Fútbol Playero continued. But then after a while the rain suddenly came down heavy enough to send folks running and seeking shelter. We certainly need the rain! And frankly I'm extremely glad to see it, though it's so little compared to what we need.

The condo has air conditioning and comes with a private garage, and there is a pool with a sundeck on the property.
