I was just getting ready to post about this. I noticed what looked like the same trees back behind our place so I went on a little hike this afternoon to see them up close. These are not the trees that I was thinking they were in my earlier post and in fact look like the Tabebuia trees you mentioned Rob. I stand corrected. They are beautiful and I don't remember them blooming so brightly in the years past that we have been here. I took some pictures of the flowers but I don't have the time right now to post them someplace so I can then share them to this forum.

I am also interested in knowing what kind of trees those are. They are very unassuming trees and their seeds look like 100 leg spiders but I have had a very hard time finding the information online. They aren't the trees Rob mentioned. I am wondering if the unusual rains we had a couple of weeks ago have helped them out because the show they are putting on this year are one of the brightest I have seen from our side of the bay.

Why do you say they aren't Tabebuia? They come in purple, too. You can DuckDuckGo them. I saw the trees on the hill that goes to La Majahua and tried to take a photo but it didn't turn out. They aren't jacaranda. They don't bloom in this month.

The hills are purple!!! From anywhere on la Ropa, look to the right of the entrance to the bay and admire the gorgeous trees in bloom. They don't do this every year and it doesn't last long. Enjoy it!!!

Rob, it's your chance to shine. Those of us unfortunates who aren't lucky enough to be in Zihuatanejo at this time are counting on your superior photography skills. Many thanks on advance!

In the past I posted an image of the trees flowering on the hill behind contramar. They are just wild trees, you might see them randomly bloom now around town as well they are pink. About 9 years ago we had huge bloom. And the weather conditions are similar to that year now. Yesterday I saw three trees in bloom, today I see about 40. The flowers should become more visible in the coming days. The mirador above las gatas provides a great look out.

I believe you're referring to the Tabebuia trees. Do they look like this?
